Canadians mostly confident if they were to lose their job

Optimism is in order among Canadian workers, according to a recent Ipsos Reid survey. According to the Institute, six Canadians out of ten think they would easily find a job with the same pay in their field if they lost their job tomorrow.

Although losing a job is never pleasant, Canadians appear to be rather confident if it were to happen to them. In an 19158184-thb.jpgIpsos Reid survey conducted with 1005 workers, 58% believe they could easily find another job in the same field with comparable salary. Young employees are the most optimistic (61%), followed by middle-aged employees (59%) then by seniors (47%). The geographic context also seems to have an effect on respondents’ answers. Workers in Saskatchewan and Manitoba are the most optimistic on this point (73%), followed by those from Alberta (64%), Quebec (63%), British Columbia (59%), the Atlantic provinces (54%) and Ontario (49%).

Less confident in other sectors
30715778-thb.jpgCanadian workers admit they are less confident if they had to find a job in another field but still with the same salary. 43% of them say they are optimistic. There again, young employees are the most optimistic (51%), followed by middle-aged employees (40%) and seniors (37%). And once again workers in Saskatchewan and Manitoba are the most optimistic, followed by Quebec (49%), British Columbia (45%), the Atlantic Provinces and Alberta (29%) and Ontario (36%).
