1. The Government of Canada and Irving Shipbuilding signed a construction contract worth $2.3 billion

Irving Shipbuilding has come to an agreement with the Government of Canada for the construction of offshore and Arctic patrol ships. A contract for $2.3 billion that enables the creation of 3,600 jobs across Canada.

 

2. Marmen Energy creates 30 to 40 new jobs in Matane

Following an investment of nearly $3 million in its Matane factory, which manufactures wind turbines, Marmen Energy will be able to improve its facilities and create 30 to 40 jobs.

4. Metro renovated in Rimouski: 122 jobs consolidated

With an investment of nearly $7 million, Metro began to renovate its Metro Plus Rimouski supermarket, which will be used to modernize facilities and consolidate the jobs of 122 people.

1. TARGET closes in Canada

Just two years after opening its first store on Canadian soil, Target, the inexpensive retailer based in Minneapolis has decided to leave Canada: 17,600 people will be losing their jobs.

2. MEXX closes 95 stores in Canada

Bankruptcy. By the end of February, the clothing retailer Mexx will be closing its 95 stores across Canada and laying-off nearly 1,800 employees.

In order to reduce costs, the company well known for its beauty products is cutting the majority of jobs at its Pointe-Claire distribution center in Montreal’s West Island, a loss of 600 positions.
