Company Christmas parties: not much enthusiasm from employees

Although company Christmas parties are extremely popular with employers and are expected to promote team spirit, a survey by OfficeTeam has revealed that only 55% of employees appreciate them.

77% of managers revealed to OfficeTeam that their employer intends to arrange a year end holiday event, a decision designed to enhance motivation and a sense of belonging among employees. However, close to half (45%) of employees don’t particularly like these get-togethers.

OfficeTeam therefore offers 5 tips to arrange a party that everyone can enjoy:

  1. Involve employees by asking them for suggestions, such as on the theme of the party or where it should be held, and encourage them to help in arranging and promoting the event.
  2. Eat, drink and relax: relaxed gatherings can be pleasant for employees and easy to organize. A simple informal meal can be a good idea, for example.
  3. Have fun and encourage interaction between employees, such as with a gift contest or group activity such as mini-golf, to give employees the opportunity to discover and appreciate each other outside work.
  4. Adopt the holiday spirit by making gifts or gathering a team of volunteers for a local association.
  5. Think about taking a few minutes during the event to thank employees for their work during the past year.
