The best job in the world exists… down under!

Is the best job in the world being well paid to do nothing? This dream job does exist, but it's a bit far—in Australia. According to a press release issued in early January, Tourism Queensland, in partnership with the territorial government, is seeking applicants for the best job in the world. The Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef will be based on heavenly Hamilton Island, and will receive a salary of A$150,000 for a six-month contract. While this could be just a brilliant public relations campaign by Tourism Queensland, it isn't—the job is bona fide. Applications from all over the world are being solicited, and candidates can apply online at www.islandreefjob.com until February 22. Required skills include hanging around on the beach to watch the birds, scuba diving to peruse the depths and do a few small tasks, maintaining a photo diary and blog of island life, answering media inquiries, etc. A few thousand outdoor enthusiasts have already applied. The successful applicant will be announced in May.
