Candidates digging into their pockets

Desperate times call for desperate measures! Unemployed for almost a year, Pasha Stocking of Connecticut found an original way to attract recruiters. She used all her savings to buy billboard space for $7,000. A giant billboard along a busy highway proclaims “Hire Me” in huge letters, along with her website address: www.hirepasha.com. Laid off because of budget cutbacks, Ms. Stocking has been looking for a job in marketing and design since June 2008. She said she has tried everything, but with nothing to show for it. Her site has already had more than 54,000 visitors. The ad will be up for four weeks, by which time her job-hunting strategy may have paid off…

Another example, in Canada this time: A 25-year-old Montrealer, Ak Antoine Saidy, used an online social network to publish an original ad offering $5,000 to whoever finds him a job in his field!
