The Best Companies for New Canadians

Canada's Top 100 Employers each year sets different awards, including those of the Best Employers for New Canadians, just published. Participating companies are judged on their abilities to recruit and integrate new immigrants within their staff as well as putting programs in place to facilitate their transition to a new workplace and a new life in Canada. These programs are evaluated on activities such as recognition of diplomas, qualifications, professional experience, hospitality, coaching, etc.  Among the winning companies this year are SaskPower, Home Depot and Fraser Milner Casgrain. Financial managers revising their retirement plans

According to a recent study conducted by Robert Half Management among 270 financial managers, 38% of them have revised their retirement plans over the last five years, compared to 51% who do not foresee any change. 14% report that they are facing an uncertain situation in which they are unable to know when they will be able to stop working. While 16% of these professionals think that they will work longer, 8% plan to cut back their working years. According David King, president of Canadian operations at Robert Half Management, companies need to undertake succession planning by providing interim and consulting positions. Such options could facilitate knowledge transfer of managers close to retirement to future managers.
