A new job site for energy workers

JuneWarren-Nickle's Energy Group has just launched a new job site exclusively for the Canadian oil and gas industry. is the result of a partnership between the energy sector publisher and Workopolis. Employers are invited to publish their ads for free until March 31, 2009, to celebrate the launch.

Creation of Mayomann.com

The new Canadian job site mayomann.com allows employers to view candidates' video resumes and also includes a regular resume database. Company videos can also be uploaded. The site, a generalist one, was launched at the end of February. It is headquartered in Victoria, British Columbia, with representatives in Australia, Europe and the U.S.

Job section on Plaxo

Social networking site Plaxo has launched a new job section, http://jobs.plaxo.com, following a partnership with U.S. job search engine Simply Hired. Users of the platform can view Simply Hired job ads and post their own, which can be consulted on the entire Simply Hired network.

 

The Caldwell Partners International expanding in the U.S.

On February 18, The Caldwell Partners International, the Canadian human capital services firm, announced the expansion of its operations in the U.S. New partners have been added to the New York and Chicago teams, and offices opened in San Francisco and Los Angeles. These new partners bring between 15 and 35 years' executive search experience. The company intends to continue growing across Canada, while pursuing opportunities in the U.S. According to John N. Wallace, president and CEO, the addition of these partners will also increase search capabilities for the company's Canadian and international clients.

 

Opening in 2009 of Adecco outsourcing centre in Montreal

At the end of January, Adecco announced the opening of a Canadian human resources outsourcing centre in Montreal in 2009. The centre will provide companies with staffing services and support human resource departments in all their functions including the recruiting of permanent and temporary staff, executive search, international recruiting, salary management, transfers, reclassification and career management. The project should create six permanent positions and a number of temporary jobs.

Already 7,000 evaluations on RateMyEmployeur.ca

After a year of operation, has received 7,000 anonymous evaluations on 2,700 companies. The site allows Canadians to rate their employers and enter comments online. In true social network style, visitors can exchange opinions about current and former employers. Manuel Francisci, the site's founder, underscores that it is also a reflection and information tool for job seekers. According to him, RateMyEmployeur.ca will also become a resource site for human resources managers, by allowing them to assess their company's reputation with candidates.

Launch of International Migrants Alliance in Canada

Last October, the Canadian chapter of the International Migrants Alliance (IMA) was launched. The IMA was founded in June 2008 in Hong Kong, and is the first international coalition for migrant workers. It aims to give migrant workers a voice and to defend their rights. The organization includes immigrant associations from 25 countries and has the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). In Canada, Tess Tessalona, member of the IMA coordination committee, underlines that the current government promotes temporary work permits for low-paid workers. They fill jobs that Canadians don't want, such as agricultural labourers or housekeepers, and then are sent back to their countries once their permits expire.
