Negotiating starting salary, Canadian workers played hooky

7 executives out of 10 ready to negotiate starting salary

Job applicants should expect to be able to negotiate their salary, if the survey conducted by The Creative Group placement agency is to be believed. According to data collected from 250 executives in publicity and marketing, 71% of respondents are willing to discuss salary from the time when they think they have found the ideal candidate. Job applicants with the most experience on the question will therefore be the most likely to succeed in their negotiations. Especially since salary is not the only issue. Fringe benefits, training proposals and the potential for advancement in the business are also factors to be taken into account.

Half of Canadian workers have played hooky

Over 54% of Canadian employees admit they have said they were sick when they weren’t, a recent study undertaken by Kronos reports. And of these fakers, close to two thirds (65%) confided that they wanted to avoid work because they were stressed or overwrought. The study also noted some differences between the provinces. In Ontario, employees seemed to skip work the most (60%) compared to Quebec and the provinces of Western Canada (49%). Aside from stress, other reasons were given by respondents: a sick child at home (35%), excessive workload (13%) and insufficient days off (12%).
