Social media replacing e-mail?

According to the results of a PEOPLE FROM COSSETTE survey released in late November, social media could soon replace regular e-mail.

The survey of 3,227 Internet users 18 years of age or older and residing in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. found that more than three quarters of respondents use e-mail to share their discoveries or information they deem important, while a third post it directly online. In addition, generation Y prefers social networks (26%) to e-mail (15%), and Facebook messaging has already replaced e-mail among many users.

The other four major findings: Facebook is poised to become the next Google; citizens are turning to social media for news and to get product information; consumers discuss “brands” online; and those who share brand information online are curious and sensitive to advertising.
