Purpose


The Senior Manager, Performance & Insights leads the business analytics practice within IB MIS Finance in support of International Banking Consumer and Small Business and IB Insurance. The incumbent is responsible for delivering actionable insights to drive business opportunities and enabling fact-based decision making, all in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Senior Manager Performance & Insights works closely with key partners across International Banking and IB Insurance, both in Toronto and in-country to ensure consistency and alignment of strategic and business performance initiatives. Key partners include, among others: IB Insurance, Strategy, Global Insurance Finance, Risk Management, Consumer Analytics and Digital Banking among others.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Manage the analytics aspects of the measuring and reporting system for IB Insurance, including data collection, KPI definitions and validations, non-financial forecasting, non-financial annual planning, and automation of performance reports using visualization tools.
  • Generate and deliver actionable business insights through the application of business analytics techniques to validate hypotheses on business opportunities and enable fact-based decision making, with a focus on business performance of IB Insurance and IB Consumer and Small Business.
  • Prepare / coordinate executive presentations to deliver analysis, recommendations, and business performance results at different levels of the organization, including Business Reviews, country touch bases and other ad-hoc requests with a focus on the insurance business.
  • Manage analytical inquiries related to executive decisions and conduct root cause analysis of key operational issues, providing guidance and advice towards optimal resolution and mitigation while ensuring a timely and high-quality response.
  • Manage the relationship with the insurance, retail, and finance counterparts in each country, as well as the IB Insurance partners in Toronto.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Statistics or any related field. Master’s degree in decision sciences, business analytics or business administration is an asset.
  • 5+ years working knowledge in retail & small business banking, insurance, segments, finance, credit risk or data analytics with a solid grasp of profitability and performance measurement tools.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail, able to work independently through obstacles
  • Strong skills interpreting data, generating actionable insights and delivering strategic messages to senior leadership level positions.
  • Ability to manage efficiently multiple priorities in order to deliver work under tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical and database managing skills using R, SAS, SQL and Excel
  • Strong skills with data visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau).
  • Fluent in Spanish is a must
