The Senior HR Business Partner will be supporting our largest client group, Global Technology Services (GTS) and will work with senior leaders and their respective technology teams directly to define and implement people strategies that are aligned with business plans to grow and evolve the business. This is a senior level role that brings a holistic, strategic perspective and experience to people planning with the senior leadership team. In addition, this individual will possess a broad generalist background across all functional areas of HR (engagement, staffing, talent management, compliance, employee relations, total rewards, leadership development, etc.) to drive organization effectiveness and enable business results.

Working in a complex and fast-paced environment, the Senior HR Business Partner acts as the ambassador for the HR function with the business, helping them understand enterprise wide priorities and governance standards, helping HR ensure that the needs of the business are given the right level of prioritization. This role acts as the conscience of the company in the business, helping leaders bring to life TMX Group’s mission, vision and values.

Key Accountabilities:

Leadership and Coaching:

  • Acts as a leadership coach to the leaders of GTS and supports the development, delivery and deployment of HR programs and processes and participate in coaching and guiding in functional and cross-functional initiatives

  • Provides guidance, direction and advice to the client regarding generalist employment relations issues including but not limited to; the interpretation of company policies & procedures, leadership development, talent management and workforce planning strategy, performance management, terminations, strategic planning, training & development and benefits administration

  • Ensure that the interests of employees and company are considered in accordance with HR policies and applicable government laws and regulations

HR Strategy and Organizational Development:

  • Develop and continually refine an HR Strategy for the business which reflects a translation of the corporate HR strategy to meet the unique future direction of GTS.

  • Facilitate the prioritization of how to allocate resources across competing interests. Able to toggle between the day to day transactions while staying focused on the critical few leverage points that best drive GTS to achieve their business and people goals.

  • Works with leaders to develop the unique value proposition of working in GTS to enables attraction and retention of a good supply of top IT and operational talent.

  • Partner with the business groups to discover new ways to incent performance; provide input into long term rewards and retention strategies that reinforce TMX”s “Pay for performance” philosophy.

  • Maintain a finger on the pulse of employee engagement and brings forward insights to the GTS leadership team. Works with Employee Communications and GTS leaders to develop well -crafted, interesting and relevant communications which drive engagement, educate staff and increase employee awareness of GTS priorities more broadly.

  • All other projects and initiatives as it pertains to continuous process improvement and client engagement

Agile Culture:

  • Working with HR to foster the development of an agile culture and agile processes in GTS and more broadly within TMX Group

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and regular change. Able to work without having all details nailed down. Ability to translate conceptual or loosely defined business or project objectives into ways HR programs might need to adapt or be developed

Must Have Skills:

  • Post Secondary education in Human Resources in addition to relevant work experience.

  • Minimum 10 -15 years progressive senior HR business partner experience supporting Information Technology clients

  • Strong understanding of the IT industry and able to bring forward emerging HR trends for colleagues in HR and the business to ensure TMX, as an applied technology company, can keep pace

  • Experience working in an Agile environment

  • Strong client management skills with a consultative, mutual problem solving approach

  • Good knowledge of employment law (including Quebec)

  • Excellent facilitator and communicator. Able to engage at all levels within the organization

  • Strong personal organization effectiveness and strong project management skills

  • Commercial acumen - able to credibly challenge the business to set a high bar for their contribution to the commercial success of the firm

  • Strategic thinker, excellent judgement, negotiation and influencing skills

  • Able to build trust – follows through, doesn’t over commit, ensures people feel heard, acts with integrity

  • Discreet – able to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Technologically proficient – likes to be an early adopter. Experience with Google suite

Nice to have(s):

  • Post graduate studies in relevant field would be an asset (e.g. Organization Behaviour, Adult Education, Psychology)
