JOB PURPOSE

As a well-rounded generalist the Human Resources Advisor will be responsible for providing full scope HR services for a wide range of Human Resources functions including talent management, onboarding, compensation and benefits, policies and procedure updates, learning and development and health and wellness. The Human Resources Advisor reports to the Director, Human Resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide full-scope internal and external recruitment and selection support and services, developing creative sourcing strategies to attract and retain a diverse candidate pool that aligns with our mission, goals and core competencies 
  • Create job ads, prescreen, interview, conduct reference checks and prepare offers of employment
  • Participate in the workforce planning process with business leaders
  • Lead the onboarding process  for new hires, working collaboratively with the hiring managers
  • Oversee the HRIS (ADP Workforce Now) data and ensure accurate employee records
  • Leverage experience and knowledge of the School’s policies and procedures and keep abreast of current trends and changes to employment legislation, to provide efficient, innovative and value-added insights and solutions on employment related issues and concerns
  • Promote and provide support for all HR policy and program development and implementation.
  • Work with leaders to address performance issues and to identify and deliver employee performance management improvement plans and or development activities
  • Support Director of Human Resources in routine and ad hoc analysis on total compensation and other strategic initiatives supporting School’s strategic objectives
  • Maintain effective disability/sick leave claims management including Early and Safe Return to Work accommodation practices in collaboration with managers, employees, medical practitioners and third party providers
  • Act as the first point of contact for benefits and pension plans administration, orientation, plans inquiries and planning information sessions.
  • Assist with managing and organizing learning and development plans and initiatives to support the School’s goals, initiatives and core competencies
  • Assist with creating and coordinating internal and external communications to support HR initiatives
  • Organize and administer the employee recognition program and end of year event

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent combination of education and related professional experience
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation would be an asset
  • 5+ Years HR generalist experience
  • Previous experience in the Education sector and/or not-for-profit sector would be an asset
  • Experience using ADP Workforce Now considered a strong asset
  • Ability to develop strong relationships and the ability to communicate with all levels of the school
  • Sound knowledge of human resource practices, trends and employment legislation
  • Strong consultative skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and resolve sensitive matters
  • Strong planning/organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing work priorities
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in a technologically rich environment, and skilled in Google Workspace is considered an asset

WORKING REQUIREMENTS

  • The York School Campus, Toronto.  Due to the nature of this position it requires being on campus 5 days a week.
