What you will be doing:

The Director, Transformation & Performance Management will provide strategic direction Transformation & Performance Management team ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. As a key partner to senior management and business line leaders, the Transformation Team is accountable for delivering strategic advice and support to solve business problems at enterprise and business line levels and ensure that delivery of projects in the bank are generating value and prioritized through the lens of overall strategic alignment, earnings growth, and customer impact.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Lead the Transformation & Strategic Performance team to provide: (1) High-touch strategy support; where the team will be on-the-ground driving strategy development in specific areas within the Bank (e.g., Quarterly Business Reviews, Big Room Planning, specific Agile ceremonies, etc.), and (2) Low-touch strategy support; where the team will be providing advisory services, e.g., participating at the steering committees for key initiatives, engaging in specific work streams of the project. Prepare supporting documentation and presentations to drive interaction and the articulation of strategies for both the Tangerine and Scotiabank boards.

  • Provide project portfolio management services and provide analysis and decision-making support for project and program prioritization to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, adhering to high quality standards and remaining aligned to the strategic objectives of the Bank.

  • Develop and implement OKRs, metrics and scorecards that will be used to measure the performance of the portfolio of projects.

  • Facilitate transformation routines including Quarterly Business Reviews, Big Room Planning, Management switchboards, etc. to help drive organizational priorities into action.

  • Manage multiple project work streams, synthesizing findings and presenting clear recommendations and implementation plans to ensure impactful project outcomes to senior leaders within the bank.

  • Collaborate with other management colleagues to provide efficient and effective resource deployment of internal and external staff to meet fluctuating project demands across the portfolio of projects.

  • Enable effective communication and coordination with all Tangerine business, IT, and external project stakeholders.

  • Participate in third party supplier selection and contract negotiation processes. Ensure that management of 3rd party contracts and service level agreements (SLAs) is done on a consistent basis during project execution.

  • Provide input into budgeting process with responsibility of managing defined governance procedures.

  • Complete competitive / business environment research and benchmarking to determine emerging issues and trends and analyze the impact / implications of those trends in the various business line strategic plans. Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • MBA (preferred) or Bachelor Degree in Commerce

  • 3-4 year post MBA experience in strategy domain

  • 5+ years of experience of leadership experience managing large projects, programs or project portfolios

  • Strategic and creative problem solver who is innovative, data-driven and improvement oriented

  • Strong financial analysis and facilitation skills with mastery in Powerpoint, Excel, etc.

  • Excellent knowledge of project portfolio management tools (Confluence, MS Project or other) and business analysis and project management processes and methodologies

  • Demonstrated knowledge in human resources policies/practices and organizational management techniques

  • Ability to clearly articulate strategy and complex ideas, and communicate using rapid visual design techniques

  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to effectively navigate ambiguity

  • A strategic thinker with the ability to combine the big picture, long-term orientation with an understanding of details and sense of urgency

  • A demonstratable history of leading difficult conversations to build alignment

  • A strong collaborator who is receptive to feedback and views team problem-solving as a natural part of the creative process

  • A positive and resilient personality. You must be able to embrace feedback and have a desire for continuous iteration and improvement

  • Comfortable working in a self-guided manner

  • A fast learner who has an appetite to learn what's behind both simple and complex financial solution
