JOB SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Specialist, Disability and Absence Management plays a pivotal role in coordinating disability management, return to work and accommodation processes for employees who are absent due to occupational and non-occupational illness or injury.

This position reports to SE Health but is dedicated to supporting Reena Organization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the WSIB application and case management process end to end beginning with the filing of Form 7s for work related illnesses/injuries as appropriate through to case objections and appeals process and the safe and early return to work process
  • Responsible for cost containment as it relates to WSIB claims management process
  • Responsible for all occupational and non-occupational medical leave case management for all staff within the applicable client group
  • Support the ongoing implementation and management of the Attendance Management Program for all staff as applicable
  • Perform case management activities in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, WSIA and company-related programs and policies.
  • Analyze incident reports and medical information to support the claim adjudication process, including decision appeals when the information is inconsistent.
  • Manage complex disability, return to work, and/or accommodation cases confirming medical information review to ensure compliance with company policy.
  • Work with various stakeholders to schedule, plan, implement, and track the progress of the return-to-work plan
  • Keep accurate records, systems, processes, reports, and other documentation stored and updated under relevant policies or standards.
  • Provide accurate and timely information regarding claims/leave extensions to supervisors, managers, insurers, and other internal stakeholders as appropriate
  • Follow-up on employee’s sick calls when required by the supervisor
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Business Partners, develop, communicate and reinforce effective attendance management and disability management strategies.
  • Provide consultancy, advice and support to all stakeholders on all employee medical/sick leaves

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, including Human Resources, Disability Management or a health-related discipline.
  • 1-3 years prior experience with disability management principles such as workplace accommodation, return to work plans and documentation
  • Certification as a Certified Disability Management Professional or Certified Return to Work Coordinator preferred
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation or equivalent an asset
  • Joint Occupational Health & Safety Certification an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. Human Rights Code (HRC), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Employee Standards Act (ESA)
  • Prior experience working in a unionized environment would be considered an asset
