Safety Management System Lead

PAL Technical Services manages all aircraft maintenance activities within the PAL Group of Companies, including PAL Airlines and PAL Aerospace.

We are currently seeking a Safety Management System Lead to join our team in St. John's, NL, supporting all aspects of the PAL Group of Companies.

The Safety Management System Lead is responsible to ensure all aspects of the Safety Management System (SMS) are executed as defined. Overseeing the safety reporting program and supporting management in the execution of required quality and safety practices, the Safety Management System Lead requires strong process skills and the ability to execute well formed solutions. Supporting a diverse organization with various operational scopes, the Safety Management System Lead is pivotal to the success of the SMS Program and ensures that all requirements are met and effective.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Maintain safety and quality reporting systems including:
  • Ensure system is reviewed and updated daily.
  • Ensuring timelines are maintained for responses.
  • Verify report ownership is assigned correctly and appropriate risk levels defined.
  • Verify root causes and responses are developed as per company defined timelines.
  • Ensure validation of corrections are applied as required and effective.
  • Coordinate investigations, participating as required.
• Provide support to company SMS programs
  • Ensure all actions are completed as per company SMS Manual.
  • Prepare reports on performance of SMS goals and objectives.
  • Prepare SMS trend analysis and highlight risks/hazards where applicable.
  • Maintain safety risk profile and hazard register.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations as part of the SMS Administrative Team
  • Prepare and present quarterly document review.
  • Stay informed of relevant aviation regulations, industry best practices, and safety standards
  • Continuous improvement support for documentation
• Provide oversite to quality and SMS coordinators.
• Complete internal audits as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

• 5 years experience with SMS processes (root cause, hazard analysis and corrective action etc…) required.
• 3-5 years' experience in Aviation or Transportation Sector preferred.
• 3-5 years' experience in working with Canadian Aviation Regulations.
• 3-5 years' experience in a leadership or a supervisory role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of SMS, BARs and IOSA requirements considered an asset.
• Excellent analytical skills, able to interpret requirements and apply to process development.
• Strong documentation management skills.
• Strong experience in risk analysis and root cause analysis.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and effective time management skills.
