The Senior Advisor, Health & Safety - Strategic Programs and Initiatives is primarily responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and sustainment of the organization's strategic health and safety programs and delivery of key improvements across our operations. The objective of the role is to help advance safety maturity by leading the EnPower business teams to a step change improvement in safety performance and culture and to steward the development and continual improvement of health and safety standards, processes, procedures, guidelines, tools, and training to support compliance.

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic Health and Safety (H&S) projects and initiatives.
  • Lead bringing together various stakeholders to organize, plan, develop, monitor, and implement H&S program solutions.
  • Develop project charters and project management plans for key safety initiatives.
  • Manage the schedule for projects and strive to keep milestones and deliverables on target.
  • Support the implementation of our safety roadmap, campaigns, safety training and communications plan to improve employee-focused engagement and capability building efforts around health and safety.
  • Lead, influence and participate in the development of occupational safety programs, policies, processes and procedures; lead the roll out of new or modified policies, processes or procedures.
  • Keep abreast of emerging regulatory changes, industry trends and issues for the purpose of developing recommendations in response to changes to mitigate risk and informing findings to key stakeholders.
  • Develop H&S program implementation and change management plans for all key initiatives.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to clarify H&S program requirement needs, conduct impact assessments, and obtain subject matter expertise.
  • Steward the H&S Program Management of Change (MOC) Process.
  • Serve as an occupational health and safety (OHS) subject matter expert resource to functional groups. Guide the organization on best practices, H&S innovations and technologies, and risk treatment strategies.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits related to H&S program improvements.
  • Administer the Energy Safety Canada Certificate of Recognition (COR) maintenance process.
  • Analyze H&S related data and provide consolidated reports on H&S performance for the various clients, and provide regular H&S communications to the department.
  • Monitor H&S performance and analyze trends for reporting to senior leadership and other data users.
  • Coach and mentor junior or emerging Health & Safety team members and Co‐op/Summer Students.

Who You Are:

  • 10+ years of occupational health and safety experience in the energy sector (Energy storage, power generation, oil and gas operations, chemical operations, midstream operations, industrial construction, renewable energy operations, etc.) with an owner‐operator organization.
  • Progressive experience with health and safety management systems and core programs such as risk management, incident management, emergency management and business continuity, safe work management, occupational health and wellbeing, supplier/contractor management, and H&S assurance.
  • Advanced experience in developing, implementing, assessing, and sustaining H&S Programs.
  • Experience developing project charters, project plans, implementation plans, communication plans and change management plans.
  • Progressive experience developing and delivering training.
  • Expert knowledge of best practices within the energy industry, the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation Code, and other applicable municipal, provincial, territorial, or federal legislation.
  • Expert understanding and experience in H&S assurance activities such as workplace inspections, work observations, program reviews and management system auditing.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Alberta Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program certification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Teams, Power BI and Intelex software platforms.
