The Payroll Department within Finance is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Pension Analyst.

The Senior Pension Analyst reports directly to the Manger, Payroll, and is responsible to provide oversight and direction with regards to the University defined benefit UAPP and PSPP pension plans data and records integrity, eligibility compliance, and administrative processes. The role consults and has frequent interaction with the Benefits Administration and People, Processes and Solutions team, Total Rewards, and with external pension plan providers to address issues, process improvements and requirements.

This role will provide expert level assurance of pension administration compliance with University collective agreements and policies, pension plan provisions, and governing pension legislation, as well as provide day to day payroll administration functions supporting the accuracy of timely payments employees.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Understand current pension plan and payroll legislation, and collective agreements, and apply professional judgment to ensure university pension plan and payroll administrative processes remain compliant
  • Expert level application of University pension eligibility policies to enforce enrollment compliance
  • Ensure accurate maintenance and reporting of ongoing and Year end pension data
  • Ensure all transactions and processes are performed within scheduled U of C Payroll and/or plan administrator deadlines
  • Provide accurate interpretation, calculation and processing of Payroll and Benefits
  • Ensure accuracy through ongoing validation, and semi-monthly, monthly, and Year End reconciliation of member pension records within PeopleSoft and to external pension plan providers
  • Liaise with pension plan providers and/or university colleagues to coordinate system inputs and processes that produce accurate and compliant pension records
  • Identify and analyze emerging pension issues with a view to the impact on current processes
  • Ensure compliance and alignment of appointments with University eligibility policy
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of pension data:
  • Consult and direct regarding contributions and system updates related to pension events:
  • Remit current and optional service contributions each pay period ensuring funds are received by pension plan providers within prescribed deadlines

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of the PCP Certification with Canadian Payroll Association
  • 5-7 years relevant experience; or a combination of education and experience may be considered
  • 3 -5 years direct exposure in Defined Benefits public sector pension plan administration is an asset
  • Highly developed organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
  • A proven commitment to modeling team values, partnering with others to achieve timely and ideal results
  • An ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines. Attention to detail and strong judgment skills are required to deal with complex issues and concerns
  • Experience with large ERP and HR, Benefits and Payroll module components
  • Experience working with and interpreting large organization policies and procedures, union contracts, and external agencies regulatory procedure
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access).
