Reporting to the Woodlands Manager, the Safety/Environmental Management System Coordinator will work as part of the woodlands team responsible for all aspects of the implementation of both the Safety and Environmental Management Systems, the development of key safety initiatives and providing leadership in the continuous improvement of both the Safety and Environmental Management Systems and procedures while ensuring compliances provincial and federal legislation.

You'll Do:

  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by ensuring Woodlands staff and contractors are compliant with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and act in a safe manner.
  • Ensuring that woodlands staff and contractors fully comply with environmental legislation, regulations, and corporate environmental policies.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly Key Performance Indicator reports to focus on operational improvement actions.
  • Manage safety incident reporting and follow-up programs, including trend analysis.
  • Manage environmental incident reporting and follow-up programs, including trend analysis.
  • Conduct periodic field audits and inspections
  • Assist in safety manual development and continuous improvement
  • Chair divisional Environmental Management System committee meetings
  • Ensure divisional environmental management system documents remain current
  • Coordinate environmental management system training for woods staff, contractors, and consultants
  • Compile environmental management system records for reporting
  • Support internal systems training
  • Aid/Support environmental management system incident investigations
  • Prepare and help deliver training to contractors (planning, harvesting, silviculture)

You have:

  • 3+ years of Health and Safety experience and/or 3+ years of forestry experience including planning, harvesting and silviculture activities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OH&S and related legislation.
  • Preference to candidates with Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation and/or RPF/RPFT designation with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Clearly communicate sensitive matters with management and maintain confidentiality.
  • Leadership Skills – team building, coaching, and mentoring, and ability to influence others
  • Experience with investigating workplace incidents and root cause analysis

Compensation Package:

  • The salary range for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location.
