Job Description

FTE: One position available at 0.4 FTE
Term: 3 year term
Remuneration: Medical Leadership pay band 12

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, the Area Chief of Staff assists in providing leadership, management and direction to the practitioner staff of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). Working in partnership with the Area Administrative Structure and the respective Administrative Leaders, the Area Chief of Staff is accountable for providing strategic and operational leadership of the SHA and partnering with other health system leaders to achieve our province's health care goals.

The Area Chief of Staff will play a key role in establishing and maintaining clinical services in their geographical area. They will be a leader in the integration of employees, practitioner staff and SHA operations to better coordinate health services across the province and ensure patients receive high quality, timely health care. Operating in a complex and dynamic health care environment, the successful candidate is an innovative, collaborative and transformational leader who will bring an unparalleled passion for health care.

The SHA is the largest public sector organization in Saskatchewan with an operating budget of over $3.8 billion, employing approximately 43,000 employees and responsible to deliver health care to the province.

Job Qualifications

  • Licensed medical practitioner in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS)
  • Eligible for medical staff appointment with the SHA
  • Eligible for an academic appointment with the University of Saskatchewan, College of Medicine
  • Participation in the Canadian Medical Association's Physician Leadership Institute would be an asset
  • Training and/or education in leadership/management would be an asset
  • Canadian Certified Physician Executive credential would be an asset
  • Advanced education in healthcare administration, public administration and/or leadership studies would be an asset
  • Has experience working in dyadic leadership roles and relationships
Experience:
  • Has experience, at a strategic level, as a medical leader who has developed and led innovative programs in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare leadership/management/administration
  • Has knowledge of and experience in guiding health quality improvement processes and initiatives

  • Has a proven ability to build interprovincial/external relationships as well as strategic partnerships with physicians, unions, academic institutions, professional associations and other healthcare organizations
  • Is committed to patient and family centred care
  • Mobilizes people, inspires and sets an example for staff, physicians and other healthcare stakeholders

Other Information:
A valid Class 5 driver's license is required as travel within the province of Saskatchewan is necessary.
