Who we are

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province's power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province's electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario's electricity needs - now and into the future.


The opportunity

Reporting to the Director Total Rewards, the Manager Total Rewards is responsible for providing support and leadership in the development, implementation and administration of the company's overall benefits, pension, compensation, wellness and rewards programs. This role also has oversight for the coordination of HR policies and ensuring programs and offerings are market competitive to help attract, retain, and reward employees.

What you will be doing

  • Supports the development of the overall Total Rewards philosophy aligned with IESO's values, vision, and business objectives
  • Consults with internal business partners, including department heads and management, to assess, develop and implement total rewards programs
  • Supports total rewards strategies and programs (including compensation, benefits, pension, recognition and wellness) that align with business objectives and support business success, and leads, coaches, manages and develops the Total Rewards (Compensation and Benefits/Pension) team to deliver on those strategies. This includes developing the appropriate salary infrastructure and leveling for the organization, salary administration, executive compensation and recognition programs.
  • Develops, recommends and implements creative and cost effective new or modified plans and policies that provide a competitive employee value proposition and fiscally sound business decisions for IESO
  • Provides counsel to direct reports, Leaders, HR Business Partners and other HR colleagues regarding total rewards solutions and issues
  • Ensures effective tools are in place to manage Total Rewards
  • planning and administration, including vendor selection and management
  • Supports the development and implementation of comprehensive employee recognition and wellness programs, designed to improve employee engagement, wellness and safety.
  • Supports the Director in the development of content and materials for our Human Resources and Governance Committee of our Board of Directors
  • Oversees the administration of all plans, proposes changes, ensures Regulatory compliance and ensures effective HRIS integration. Efficiently manages work flow and deadlines, makes policy and program recommendations, and recommends/initiates new approaches, policies and procedures to support continuous improvement
  • Collaborates with Talent Management, HR Business Partners and Director Total Rewards to develop programs and initiatives to improve practices, processes and programs to enable attracting and retaining a high-performing, agile, diverse and inclusive workforce.
  • Ensures all plans and processes comply with applicable internal and external regulations and requirements, including reporting and required disclosure
  • Ensures and oversees the audit of total rewards programs (e.g. compensation, benefits, pensions)
  • Stays on top of and determines compliance with legal requirements and analyzes, and recommends compliance actions for new and evolving legislation e.g. compensation, pensions, benefits etc.
  • Stays abreast of total rewards trends

What you need to succeed

  • University or post graduate degree in business management, finance, accounting, human resources or equivalent required.
  • CCP or CEBS designation preferred.
  • Must have a successful track record of leading the total rewards function
  • 8-10 years of benefits and compensation related experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a people leader
  • Experience with managing compensation, benefits and defined benefit plans in the public sector
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain, influence, listen, instruct, give clear feedback, and ask insightful questions
  • Must have strong analytical skills and the ability to translate technical analysis into presentations.
  • Innovative thinking and problem solver.
  • Leadership skills balanced with an informed management of all aspects of the Total Rewards function
  • Ability to think strategically, and objectively and experience developing and implementing large scale projects and change initiatives

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario . When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga location.
