Job Summary

Tech Digital manufactures audio and video infrastructure equipment for the television broadcast and film industry. We are located at John Street and Woodbine in Markham, ON.

Tech Digital is searching for an enthusiastic HR Generalist with a proactive work ethic and a positive attitude. The ideal candidate is someone who can balance the needs of the business along with the needs of our employees. Having a caring, approachable personality is a must for this position. This position has a strong emphasis on Health & Safety, Payroll and Employee Relations; experiences in these areas are highly preferred. Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm. This position is a full-time contract - 16 months maternity leave position.

The successful candidate will report to the HR Director and work closely with the Plant Manager. Our wonderful team of 60+ culturally diverse hourly manufacturing employees are split between two shifts: day (7am-3:30pm) and afternoon (3:30pm-12am). The day shift employees report to the Plant Manager and the afternoon shift employees report to the Afternoon Shift Supervisor, who reports to the Plant Manager.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance and support to management and staff
  • Responsible for full cycle recruitment, training and orientation
  • Manage employee relations issues and investigate discrimination and harassment allegations
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures including Health and Safety, AODA, and other HR policies as required
  • Responsible for payroll processing
  • Pension and benefits plan administrator
  • Manage Health & Safety programs and related training (JHSC meetings, workplace inspections, fire safety including monthly fire extinguisher inspections, spill control procedure training)
  • Keep management apprised of current employment related legislation
  • Assist with annual performance reviews
  • Responsible for planning company events and luncheons
  • Maintain presence on production floor while developing working relationship with staff
  • General HR Administration (maintain employee records, absence tracking, etc.)

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, and at least 3 years of HR experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Strong knowledge of employment and health and safety legislation (ESA, Human Rights, OHSA)
  • Exceptional organizational, problem identification and resolution skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid computer knowledge including effective working skills of MS Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Ability to deal with confidential information
  • Ability to deal with employees tactfully and diplomatically
  • Must be a team player with a "can do" attitude along with ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail are critical
  • Manufacturing and payroll experience are assets
  • Experience with UKG Pro and Dimensions seen as an asset
  • Certified JHSC member and First Aid/CPR certifications are assets
