We are looking for a Payroll Officer to be part of a diverse and collaborative team. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic payroll practitioner looking for a new challenge.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day payroll, supporting simple/complex payroll calculations and liaise, review, and manage payroll to assure efficient and effective delivery of payroll on time and accurately. Reporting into the Payroll Team Lead, you will be located at the Yellowknife Office and will work Monday to Friday (40-hour work week.)

You will be responsible for:

  • Efficient and accurate payroll.
  • Ensure compliance obligations are maintained and internal controls are performed and remain compliant to regulatory needs and SOX compliance requirements.
  • Deliver on internal and external statutory audit requirements.
  • Liaison with our Human Resources and Benefits teams to solve complex problems and answer employee requests and escalations.
  • Working with IT Teams to ensure our systems are compliant and remain up to date.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiative in the Shared service payroll.

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Extensive experience in Payroll (over 5 years) with relevant Finance or Human Resources degree/qualification, comprehensive understanding of Canadian legislation and taxation.
  • Knowledge and experience of SAP Payroll within an environment of 1000+ employees.
  • Ability to influence and problem solve.
  • Proven experience in creating and development process documentation.
  • Resilience, ability to thrive in a continuous improvement culture and have a strong commitment to team-based processes and outcomes.
  • Capability and versatility in delivering objectives across a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, consultation skills along with self-managing time to deliver priorities with high attention to detail.
  • Strong exposure / experience in third party payments and reconciliation of GL accounts.
  • A desire for further exposure /development in team leadership and willingness to take wider responsibility.

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
