Building and maintaining our provincial infrastructure is no small job.
The Traffic Engineering & Road Safety team of the Department of Public Works directly impacts the quality of traffic engineering efficiency and road safety engineering operations in the province. We develop and ensure comprehensive standards, policies, procedures, and programs are in place to mitigate injury and collisions on Nova Scotia's highways.
Our team is comprised of professional staff who develop and manage various policies and programs, collect collision and traffic census data, conduct engineering studies and analysis, and impact traffic control devices, legislation, and regulations.
Reporting to the Director of Highway Engineering Services and Capital Programs, the Manager will provide leadership and expertise in the areas of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety. You are accountable for development and management of public policy, department programs, collision and traffic census data, access management, traffic control devices, legislation, regulations and engineering studies and analysis. Liaises with other government departments and municipalities, co-chairs the Province's Road Safety Advisory Committee, and is the Provincial Traffic Authority.

This position requires strategic leadership, a deep understanding of traffic engineering, and a commitment to enhancing road safety through innovative and evidence-based approached.
As the Manager, Traffic Engineering and Road Safety you must be a Professional Engineer (registered or eligible to be registered with Engineers Nova Scotia). You are leader or senior level engineer with many years of experience in the Road safety/traffic industry possessing strong technical experience, coupled with progressive experience managing and coaching staff. In this role, it is critical that you are an excellent communicator who maintains good relationships with colleagues, clients, industry, senior management and your staff.
This position is in Halifax and the successful applicant will be expected to have the ability to travel within Nova Scotia.

Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day. You may be required to work overtime on occasion.
The majority of your work is conducted in a comfortable office environment with moderate travel required within and outside of the Province.

You must be able to manage stressful, complex situations and balance many different issues and considerations. Work is often subject to extensive scrutiny and criticism by the public and by the diverse communities served.
Pay Grade: EC 13
Salary Range: $4,055.86 - $5,069.81 Bi-Weekly
