Purpose:

The Advisor, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) provides support and guidance for the health, safety, security and environmental programs for the Vancouver Terminal. The role is responsible for monitoring HSSE programs, as well as the identification and development of new initiatives to improve safety performance. This is a 15 month contract position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with incident investigations ensuring timely completion and identification of root causes and actions are assigned to ownership to local team.
  • Assist in the development of standardized HSSE systems, programs, policies, training, campaigns and programs related to injury prevention and regulatory and company compliance.
  • Attend and assist with participation, preparation and actions pertaining to JHSC's at the Business Unit.
  • Coordinate the implementation of relevant local, Regional and Global best practices to improve health and safety performance.
  • Perform routine inspections, audits, and interactions with operations to maintain regulatory and internal HSSE requirements.
  • Assist with injury management including, corresponding with Third Party Claims Management provider, WorksafeBC, and the injured person to facilitate as safe return to previous work.
  • Collaborate with the DPW World Canada team (all functions) to standardize HSSE processes across the BUs when possible.
  • Assist to oversee Security Management Program such as executing drills, exercises, auditing of security plans and guard services to meet Transport Canada regulations.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Minimum 3-5 years health and safety experience; prior experience working in an industrial and/or unionized environment an asset.
  • Occupational Health and Safety training (minimum 2 years) and Health and Safety Designation (CRSP, CRST, NCSO, CSO or equivalent).
  • Willingness to take initiative to solve problems and a desire to identify process improvements.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/ initiatives with all departments and levels.
  • Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
  • Self-starter with a positive, hands on approach and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Exceptional computer skills and ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written.
  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
