Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Clinical Nurse Educator, Career Pathways and Advanced Training utilizes evidence-informed practice, national/regional standards, and educational theories and methodologies to develop and facilitate Fraser Health education programs. Assesses, evaluates and supports learners to meet competencies required for successful program completion. Mentors individuals who wish to pursue advanced training opportunities (e.g. new graduates, employed students, or staff in transition lines) by providing on-site support and contributing to individualized professional development plans. Measures education plan success and amends accordingly. Working across Fraser Health on assigned initiatives and in collaboration with clinical experts and members of the interprofessional team, demonstrates educational expertise and supports learners to meet program requirements. May participate in research, policy, quality improvement, and risk management activities. The Clinical Nurse Educator performs their duties with a regional focus and may be required to work at multiple sites across Fraser Health.


Responsibilities

  1. Develops, facilitates and revises educational programs based on clinical evidence, policy, best practice guidelines, literature resources, education theory and innovative education methodology to achieve effective learner experiences and outcomes.
  2. Creates supportive and positive learning/work environments; builds respectful professional relationships and encourages/role-models open communication.
  3. Delivers learner-centered education using adult learning principles and synchronous/asynchronous learning and virtual/in-person formats, through methods such as conducting formal lectures, skills labs, simulation and discussion forums, and providing clinical on-site instruction.
  4. Provides clinical mentorship by coaching and role-modeling best practice and supporting learning and professional development planning.
  5. Schedules educational activities and maintains a system for tracking attendance; maintains statistics for reporting purposes.
  6. Conducts learner evaluations using competency based assessments, exams and assignments; provides input and applies teaching strategies to support learners achieve established program goals.
  7. Evaluates education program effectiveness by measuring learning outcomes; assists Directors, Leaders, and Learning Development Consultants in the development or redesign of curriculum.
  8. Supports meaningful partnerships with the educational sector to foster learning. Collaborates with post secondary institution educators to optimize learning environments and opportunities for learning.
  9. Partners with site Clinical Nurse Educators, Patient Care Coordinators to identify learning needs and support learners and staff pursuing advanced training opportunities.
  10. Participates in research and special projects; promotes staff awareness and involvement in research activities.
  11. Collaborates with internal and external contacts, participates on a variety of designated regional committees.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years of recent related clinical experience in the designated clinical area, including one (1) year of education and/or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Completion of post graduate course work and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area.

Valid BC Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.
