Reporting directly to the Manager of Nîsôhkamâtotân Programs and Services, this position is a member of both the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre and the Student Recruitment team . The Aboriginal Recruitment Specialist works closely with the members of both teams to support NAIT’s Aboriginal enrolment, and diversity and inclusion objectives. The position is guided by NAIT’s Aboriginal student recruitment strategy and NAIT’s Aboriginal strategy, “Connecting the Four Directions.”

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing operational plan aligned with the Aboriginal Recruitment Strategy.
  • Implement strategies to develop qualified Aboriginal applicants
  • Plan, execute, and attend and/or present at recruitment activities and events for Aboriginal students
  • Provide personalized support, follow up on qualified leads, and coordinate and execute outreach campaigns to support Aboriginal applicants
  • Identify opportunities to improve communications & processes to meet the needs of Aboriginal applicants
  • Maintain detailed information on, and answer questions about, NAIT programs, services, entrance requirements, application process, student awards and financial aid, etc.
  • Identify opportunities to improve communications and processes to address the needs of Aboriginal communities and remove systemic barriers.
  • Help applicants connect with NAIT Aboriginal community to enhance their sense of belonging
  • Outline event needs, plan, and execute event strategy for prospective Aboriginal students
  • Respond to inquiries from prospects, families, and school and community organization representatives
  • Analyze data to determine the most effective use of available resources
  • Measure impacts of recruitment activities and events
  • Support development & updating of recruitment materials related to Aboriginal student recruitment
  • Participate in Aboriginal cultural events on campus and in the local community
  • Build and maintain relationships with Aboriginal communities across Alberta and Canada
  • Coordinate the Prospective Aboriginal Youth (PAY) Program

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Aboriginal languages, protocols, and customs
  • Knowledge of prospective Aboriginal students’ preferences, perspectives, and challenges
  • Communication and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail
  • Intercultural and analytical skills, and proven ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of different target audiences (e.g., high school, transfer, mature students, etc.), and their preferences, perspectives, and challenges
  • Time management skills: a sense of urgency, and ability to plan and prioritize daily activities
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member while managing multiple tasks efficiently and effectively,
  • Consultative skills and demonstrated ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and good judgment
  • Ability to develop travel plans and travel independently
  • Understanding of NAIT program offerings, admissions practices, and processes
  • Understanding of post-secondary student recruitment & customer relationship management practices
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two-year post-secondary diploma. Bachelor’s Degree considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • 1-3 years of experience working with Aboriginal communities.
  • 1-3 years related experience with domestic student recruitment and/or enrolment management.
  • Previous experience in a post-secondary institution, including applying knowledge of general and specific admission requirements for the Alberta system, is considered an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License and the ability to rent a vehicle are required.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, and travel within Canada.
  • Equivalencies may be considered.

Remuneration: $61,997.52 - $83,085.08 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Coordinator I)

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
