The Faculty of Faculty of Nursing invites applications for a eLearning Tech Coordinator. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 24 months(based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The e-Learning Technology Coordinator reports directly to the Manager, Technology Integrated Learning, Faculty of Nursing. There is strong linkage, day-to-day collaboration, and accountability to the Learning and Instructional Design Specialist to support the development of innovative and effective e- learning environments across graduate and undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Nursing. This position requires an experienced and dynamic person with a solid educational technology background and proven, applied experience in online and blended course design. The specialist will build content as well as provide technical support and coaching for faculty in the design of quality nursing courses and modules. The e-Learning Technology Coordinator will use interactive instructional design strategies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional systems.

Normal work hours are 7 hours per day, 4 days per week. Flexibility in hours (working occasional evenings or weekend days) may be required to meet the needs of the e-learning environment.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The position supports the Faculty of Nursing in the development, design, and implementation of online course content in blended and online courses and programs. The incumbent will work closely with faculty members, the Learning and Instructional Design Specialist, and relevant individuals in the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning. The incumbent will collaborate with faculty to determine ways learning technologies can be integrated into courses to enhance students' learning experiences.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Provide individual support, training, guidance, and coaching to faculty in the design and delivery of courses using emerging technologies, tools and platforms including (but not limited to) Desire2Learn, Articulate 360 and Adobe Captivate, Yuja, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
  • Liaise with the Learning & Instructional Design Specialist to provide course editing support and instructional design support
  • Develop video and written learning material for instructor teaching and faculty initiatives (including recording and editing)
  • In collaboration with the Learning & Instructional Design Specialist, conduct workshops and consultation through one-on-one or small group personalized training sessions
  • Coordinate and provide extensive educational technology support and online technical course design expertise to faculty (particularly important before an online course begins)
  • Support to online classrooms may be required in late afternoons and evenings, requiring the incumbent to be flexible in meeting the needs of the course and instructors
  • Encourage faculty interest in learning technology and identifies opportunities to use technology effectively
  • Provide referrals to the Taylor Institute for Teaching & Learning when it is identified a larger community of support is required in a particular area or to fulfill an identified, individualized need
  • Stay abreast of, and works to incorporate, new digital technology that would enhance the faculty's online and blended programs, and share this information by providing short seminars and operational training for faculty and staff
  • Assists with technical aspects of the evaluation of online courses or course components (for example, assists with technical aspects of evaluation tool design and data collection)

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related discipline is required
  • Minimum of 3-4 years' experience with a variety of educational technologies, including: Desire2Learn Brightspace, Articulate 360, Yuja, Microsoft Teams, Zoom
  • Proven experience with photo and video production, including planning, recording, and editing using various software (e.g., Camtasia)
  • Some experience with various Adobe applications, including Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
  • Experience with Windows and Mac operating systems and Internet applications in a networked environment is required
  • Ability to translate technical concepts to faculty members and students to build their understanding and confidence in e-learning technology
  • Current understanding of trends and innovations in e-learning technology
  • Ability to assess the relevance/usefulness of new or changing e-learning technologies for the faculty learning context
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - the ability to establish and maintain effective service-oriented working relationships with faculty, staff, and students is critical to the success of this role
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with individuals and teams across the organization
  • Knowledge of and experience in managing issues at the intersections of e-learning technology and rigorous academic practices/academic integrity would be beneficial
  • Some photography skills would be beneficial
