The Opportunity
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Person is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs, and servicing in the following areas - carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and ventilation, on properties, under the jurisdiction of Western District.
Responsibilities
Carry out assessment and preventative maintenance to all assigned buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities, and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Maintain properties under the jurisdiction of the Western District, including walks, driveways and parking areas, drainage systems, curbs and gutters, swales, culverts, manholes, catch basins, etc. Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports and inventory records. Repair vacant units to make them rent-ready. Operate motor vehicles, motorized equipment and power tools used in the trade. Respond to after-hours maintenance calls while participating on the standby duty roster.
Qualifications
Must Have
Grade 12 or equivalent, plus five years' experience in building and property maintenance or a related field. Must be able to perform basic tasks in carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and drywall. Ability to operate electrical and mechanical tools and equipment. Ability to perform physical tasks using good body mechanics. Knowledge of residential building technology, basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Nice to Have
Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications. Knowledge of computer systems is beneficial.
The Fine Print
An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.
This position requires a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Travel within the Western district is required.
