The Jim Pattison Auto Group has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Payroll Operations to join our team at our Group Office in Surrey! The Manager, Payroll Operations plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors centralized payroll for the organization. Working with all levels of employees and management using effective communication and relationship development, the Manager, Payroll Operations will oversee the payroll department and its operations. Schedule: This is a full-time, permanent leadership role based on 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. This role reports to the Director, Human Resources. Learn more about us here: https://www.jpautogroup.com/dealership/about.htm A Day in the Life Maintain, update, and improve payroll processes within a centralized, multi-provincial environment. Establish, implement, and publish policies and SOPs related to payroll. Administer a sound program of payroll preparation and ensure compliance with provincial Employment Standards. Ensure the accurate and timely preparation, submission, and reconciliation of statutory government remittances, taxable benefits, payroll deductions, and benefit plan remittances. Process semi-monthly & bi-weekly employee payroll payments (hourly, salary, commission) and deductions on-time and through the appropriate channels. Verify all HR reporting documents and submit to senior management. Verify all hours and overtime hours with appropriate managers prior to payroll submission. Prepare and submit ROEs. Calculate all bonuses (monthly, annually) and submit for approval to senior management. Prepare, post, and reconcile all payroll related expense and accrual accounts to the general ledger. Prepare, reconcile and submit year-end reports (T4's). Administer garnishment / third party demands. Prepare and submit provincial WCB reconciliations and remittances. Ensure provincial health tax remittances are applied accurately, and submit reports as required (BC, MB). Maintain all employee records in payroll systems. Prepare the annual Pay Transparency Report for publication (BC). Hire, coach, train, and guide the payroll team, supporting their professional growth and development through regular performance reviews and training opportunities. Hold meetings for the payroll department, at regular intervals. Promote co-operation and teamwork within the payroll department, as well as with all other departments. What We Are Looking For Deep expertise of provincial payroll legislation across multiple jurisdictions (BC, AB, MB). Hands-on experience managing large, multi-provincial operations (1,200+ employees). Post-secondary education in Payroll, or a related field. PCP or PLP Designation is required. At least 5 years of payroll experience, with previous experience leading others. Experience with enterprise payroll systems, with a preference for Ceridian Dayforce. Previous experience in the Automotive industry is strongly preferred. Experience with commission-based pay structures. Union payroll experience is considered an asset. Knowledge of General Accounting principles related to payroll (journal entries, vacation accruals, reconciliations). Proficient with MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel), with solid Excel skills. Proven experience with ensuring provincial and federal payroll compliance, and maintaining audit readiness. Experience with payroll Year-end preparation, reconciliations, and processing. Experience with managing taxable benefits and allowances. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with employee information, ensuring discretion and strong ethics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; must be able to interact professionally with employees, senior management, and third parties as required.
