About the role
About CRWS Canadian Railway Services is a fast-growing rail engineering and project delivery firm operating across Canada. We refurbish and modernize rolling stock, deliver complex industrial projects, we work in a safety-critical environment where execution discipline and quality are non-negotiable, and people are central to everything we do. As we scale across multiple entities, we are actively building the HR infrastructure, systems, and team to support our growth, and this role is at the centre of that effort.
What You’ll Do As HR Generalist, you will work directly with the Director of Strategic Operations to execute across the full HR function (recruitment, onboarding, employee lifecycle administration, HR program rollout, and policy implementation) across all CRWS group companies.
This is a hands-on, execution-focused role with real ownership. You will be the operational backbone of the HR department as it takes shape, managing active recruitment files, coordinating onboarding and performance program rollouts, and contributing to the HR infrastructure projects being built this year. This role requires someone who can manage multiple moving parts, move quickly without losing accuracy, and work comfortably in an environment where the systems are still being built alongside the work itself.
Key Responsibilities · Manage full-cycle recruitment across all CRWS group companies: sourcing, screening, coordinating interviews, reference checks, and supporting offer preparation for field, technical, and office roles · Source candidates through LinkedIn, Indeed, job boards, referrals, industry contacts, and recruitment partners; build and maintain talent pipelines for current and anticipated roles · Coordinate end-to-end onboarding for all new hires: documentation, system enrollment, orientation, and first-week setup across departments and entities · Prepare and manage employment documents: offer letters, employment agreements, probation review packages, and personnel file setup and maintenance · Support the rollout of the KPI and bonus program: distributing agreements, tracking signed returns, coordinating 1:1 sessions, and maintaining completion records · Administer the PPD (People, Performance & Development) framework: coordinate probation reviews, distribute performance review packages, and maintain coaching logs and PIPs in accordance with policy timelines · Contribute to HR infrastructure projects led by the Director: salary band communications, onboarding program build-out, HR policy implementation, HRIS evaluation, and process documentation · Maintain accurate, audit-ready employee records and HR databases; support benefits administration including enrollment and employee queries · Serve as first point of contact for employee questions on HR policies, onboarding, and benefits; coordinate offboarding including ROE processing · Assist with timesheet accuracy and payroll coordination; ensure HR documentation complies with Quebec and BC employment standards
What We’re Looking For · Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field · 3–6 years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated ownership of full-cycle recruitment and employee administration · Experience recruiting for technical, engineering, or industrial roles is a strong asset · Working knowledge of Quebec labour standards (LNNT, LSST); familiarity with BC employment standards is an asset · Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, and ATS platforms · Bilingualism in French and English (written and spoken) is required · CPHR candidacy (working toward designation) is a strong asset
How You Work · You are organized and detail-oriented, you track what needs to happen and make sure it does · You take initiative and work independently; you don’t wait to be told what to do next · You handle sensitive information with discretion and exercise sound judgment · You are comfortable in an environment where programs and processes are still being designed, you contribute to the build, not just the execution · You communicate clearly with employees, managers, and candidates, and adjust your style to the audience
Working Conditions · Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday to Friday · On-site at CRWS Montréal HQ; hybrid eligibility upon successful completion of probation · Occasional travel to other CRWS group sites; attendance at job fairs and recruitment events as required
Compensation & Benefits · Salary commensurate with experience ($70,000–$90,000 annual salary range) · Group health and benefits plan · RRSP matching contribution · Paid vacation and personal days according to company policy · Professional development and training opportunities
Why Join CRWS · Be the person who builds the HR function, not just supports it with real ownership from day one · Gain breadth across recruitment, compensation, performance management, and HR operations in a single role · Grow with a company that is investing seriously in its people infrastructure during a key growth phase
