Position Summary
The Chief People Officer is a key enterprise leader responsible for shaping a people first, performance driven culture across Compass Group Canada. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a strategic advisor to the Canadian Executive Leadership Team, the CPO will lead all People & Culture functions, including talent acquisition, labour relations, total rewards, HR operations, learning and development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and organizational effectiveness.
This leader will play a critical role in attracting, developing, and retaining top talent while advancing operational excellence across both foodservice and facilities management. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast paced, client-focused environment where frontline engagement, safety, and service excellence are essential to success.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise People Strategy & Leadership

Develop and execute a national people strategy aligned with Compass Group Canada’s growth priorities across foodservice, facilities management, and remote site operations.

Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team on workforce planning, organizational design, leadership capability, and culture transformation.

Strengthen organizational structures, processes, and leadership behaviors that support scalable, high performing operations.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

Lead national recruitment strategies across culinary, hospitality, facilities management, remote site, frontline, and corporate leadership roles.

Anticipate workforce needs across healthcare, education, business and industry, and remote camp operations to ensure proactive talent planning.

Elevate Compass Group Canada’s employer brand as a leading workplace for hospitality, facilities management, and frontline service talent.
Labour Relations, Total Rewards & HR Operations

Oversee labour relations strategy, including union partnerships, collective bargaining, and dispute resolution across Canada.

Ensure compensation and benefits programs remain competitive, equitable, and aligned to the needs of a diverse workforce.

Modernize HR technology, systems, and analytics to improve workforce visibility, scheduling, and operational efficiency.

Ensure compliance with Canadian employment legislation and regulatory requirements across all provinces and territories.
Leadership Development & Learning

Lead leadership development initiatives that strengthen capability across unit managers, district managers, and sector executives.

Drive succession planning for critical operational and corporate leadership roles.

Oversee enterprise learning initiatives, including culinary training, safety programs, and facilities management technical development.
Qualifications

15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, ideally within hospitality, food service, facilities management, retail, or other large multi-unit environments.

Proven experience leading People & Culture functions in complex, unionized organizations.

Demonstrated success driving culture transformation, workforce planning, and leadership development at scale.

Strong business acumen with the ability to translate operational realities into effective people strategies.

Deep understanding of Canadian employment law, labour relations, and provincial regulatory environments.

Exceptional communication, influence, and relationship building skills across all organizational levels.

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
