About the role

Job Description The Payroll Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of assigned payrolls while ensuring compliance with company policies, collective agreements, and applicable legislation. This role serves as a key contributor within the payroll team, supporting complex payroll functions, reconciliations, issue resolution, and special initiatives. The Payroll Analyst partners closely with HR, site leadership, and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality payroll services and an exceptional employee experience. This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment. Key responsibilities include: Prepare, balance, and reconcile payroll data to ensure accuracy and completeness. Audit payroll changes and updates to maintain data integrity and compliance. Process earnings, deductions, and statutory withholdings in accordance with company policies, collective agreements, and payroll legislation. Calculate complex earnings components including retroactive pay, holiday pay, vacation pay and accruals, employee reimbursements, benefits, pensions, union dues, and paid leaves. Perform regular vacation accrual reconciliations and validate vacation balances in accordance with collective agreement language, company policy, and employment standards legislation. Investigate payroll discrepancies, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Complete payroll system testing and maintain supporting documentation. Reconcile and process third-party remittances and payments. Provide payroll guidance and responsive support to employees, HR Business Partners, and site leaders. Contribute to special projects, process improvements, and continuous enhancement initiatives. What we’re looking for: Demonstrated experience performing full-cycle payroll processing. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and XLookup). Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation through the Canadian Payroll Association preferred. Solid understanding of payroll tax regulations and multi-provincial payroll requirements. Experience supporting large, complex payroll environments is an asset. Familiarity with Workday is an asset. Experience using ServiceNow or similar ticket management systems to track, escalate, and resolve service requests. Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage high-volume workloads accurately. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
