About This Position

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the HR Generalist provides day-to-day human resources support across the function, including employee relations, employee engagement and events, HR administration, benefits and compensation support, and compliance with applicable employment legislation.

The role serves as a first point of contact for employees and supervisors on HR policies, programs, and procedures and escalates complex or sensitive matters to the Manager, Human Resources. The position supports HR programs across Cementation Canada operations, including corporate offices and project sites in multiple Canadian jurisdictions, and is an experienced individual contributor role operating in a position of high trust and confidentiality.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Health & Safety

Work in compliance with all health and safety rules and regulations for Cementation. Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to the Health and Safety Department. Support the integration of health and safety requirements into HR processes, including onboarding, training records, and disability management.

Employee Relations

Act as a first point of contact for employees and supervisors on the interpretation and application of HR policies, programs, and procedures. Support supervisors and managers in addressing performance, attendance, and conduct matters, including documentation and progressive discipline, escalating complex matters as appropriate. Assist with workplace investigations, including harassment and human rights complaints, under the direction of HR leadership. Support terminations and offboarding processes, ensuring compliance with applicable employment standards legislation and company policy. Promote a respectful, inclusive workplace consistent with Cementation values and applicable human rights legislation.

HR Administration and Compliance

Ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and compliance of employee records and HRIS data in collaboration with the HR team, including review of employee lifecycle transactions and periodic data audits. Liaise with the HSE recruitment function throughout the hiring process, with accountability transferring to Human Resources at the job offer stage, including the preparation of employment offers and contracts in compliance with the applicable legal framework in each jurisdiction, and coordination of a seamless handover into onboarding. Prepare employment letters, contracts, change notices, and other HR documentation. Monitor and apply employment legislation and regulatory requirements across Canadian jurisdictions in which Cementation operates and escalating complex or contentious matters to the Manager, Human Resources. Support internal and external audits, government reporting, and compliance filings as required. Assist in the development, review, and communication of HR policies and procedures.

Compensation, Benefits, And Leave Administration

Support the administration of group benefits, pension or retirement savings programs, and employee enrolment and changes. Assist with leave administration, including statutory leaves, short-term and long-term disability, and return-to-work coordination. Provide support for annual compensation processes, including data preparation and analysis.

Training, Development, and HR Programs

Coordinate training and development activities, including scheduling, tracking, and record keeping. Support the administration of performance management and employee development programs. Contribute to HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives, including engagement, diversity and inclusion, and HR systems enhancements.

Employee Engagement, Events, and Administrative Support

Champion employee morale and engagement, acting as a visible and approachable resource for employees across the organization. Take full ownership of the planning, coordination, and delivery of company functions, special events, and employee recognition activities, including logistics, vendor coordination, budgets, communications, and on-site support. Provide general administrative support to the HR team, including document preparation, filing, meeting coordination, and other administrative duties as required.

Education And Experience

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, or working towards, is considered an asset. Two (2) to five (5) years of progressive experience working in a Human Resources role. Experience in the mining industry is considered an asset. Experience supporting employees across multiple provinces or jurisdictions is considered an asset.

Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

Knowledge of employment laws and regulations throughout Canada, including provincial employment standards legislation, human rights legislation, occupational health and safety legislation (specific to workplace harassment regulations) and privacy legislation. High level of confidentiality, trust, and professional judgment. Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times. Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and other stakeholders. Effective written and verbal communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization. Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met. Able to organize, compile, and analyze information from multiple sources. Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently. Able to interpret and implement personnel related legislation. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with HRIS is considered an asset. Ability to communicate in French and/or Spanish would be beneficial.
