About the role
The Human Resources Manager is responsible to ensure the health and safety of all employees by driving initiatives that support the Zero Harm vision. As a member of the Senior Management Team the Human Resources Manager is responsible for all Human Resources activities at Corner Brook Pulp & Paper Limited in support of three divisions under the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper; Woodlands, Deer Lake Power and Newsprint Mill.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Health, Safety & Environmental

Sustain a strong commitment to safety, ensuring safety is kept at the forefront and no compromises are encountered. Adhere to, and promote company safety and environmental policies.

Support Health and Safety Policy, Procedure and initiatives.

Ensure effective operations of the Mill’s medical center and security team on both proactive and emergency response matters.

Sit as part of the Disaster Response Team
Employee Relations
-
Manage a positive work environment by effectively administering Company policies and procedures.

Provide HR support to supervision and managers through communication and advising in people related services and problem solving of HR issues.

Support performance management and improvement plans.
-
Foster an environment of respect and equality through the review and implementation of DEI strategies woven into policies and practices.
Administration of Collective Agreements / Union Relations

Maintain positive relations and good communications with leaders of all union locals.

Provide interpretation and application of collective agreements

Administer labour relations including dispute resolution, grievance resolution and arbitration process.

Direct and participate in matters involving disciplinary action and performance improvement plans.

Lead the collective bargaining process
Recruitment & Succession Planning

Manage site succession plan
-
Manage new hire process for recruitment of salaried staff.

Arrange and conduct interviews, reference checks, assessments & testing.

Responsible for employee development plans and employee appraisal process.
Labour Oversight & Budgeting
-
Oversee Development of labour and training budgets
-
Establish and support measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including labour utilization versus budget, overtime, absenteeism, training, etc.
Employee Development
-
Oversee training activities and succession planning for employees.

Oversee and manage the training budget and program for CBPPL.
Direct Reports

Human Resources Advisor

Occupational Health Nurse
Coach, develop and manage all direct reports. Evaluate performance of direct reports by way of the Employee Development and Performance Appraisal Review (EDPAR).
Qualifications
§ Bachelor of Commerce with Major in Human Resources and Industrial rations or other appropriate University degree.
§ Minimum of 10 years progressive work experience in Human Resources.
§ Certified Human Resources Professional certification (CHRP).
§ Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
§ Capacity to exercise problem solving techniques in the analysis of a problem.
§ Aptitude to function as a Change Agent, to foster creativity and idea generation.
§ Proficient use of computers and Microsoft Outlook.
