Pay Range: $65,000 - $95,000

Position Overview:
The Instructional Designer is responsible for the design, and development of training solutions to meet the developmental objectives within merchandising. This includes creating self-paced training guides, presentations, job aids/performance support tools, reference materials, and tailored, role-based onboarding plans.
The Instructional Designer must be a master storyteller, possessing advanced PowerPoint and graphic design capabilities to translate strategies into visually compelling narratives for stakeholders at all levels (from frontline associates to Vice Presidents). Additionally, this role focuses on managing SharePoint sites as centralized learning hubs and teaching AI tools to optimize workflows.
To deliver custom functional and technical training, the Instructional Designer must maintain a good understanding of the merchandising business and client groups. Beyond great relationship building, this role actively collaborates to map training solutions directly to talent and development needs. This instructional designer navigates a fluid environment to create tailored training.
Key responsibilities:
- 65% Design and develop learning solutions
o Assist in the recommendation and development of training solutions—such as self-paced training guides, presentations, or alternative formats—tailored specifically to the shifting needs of the business.
o Assist with the creation of change management guides and support materials to ensure smooth solution adoption.
o Build and maintain comprehensive onboarding frameworks tailored to distinct roles within merchandising.
o Create executive-level presentations that clearly articulate learning strategies, data, and project impacts.
o Leverage generative AI tools to actively train and upskill the broader team on AI applications.
- 20% Collaborate with Client Group(s) to identify business priorities and align custom training solutions with talent/ development needs.
o Partner alongside the Talent Development Manager in project intake meetings to actively assess, discover, and diagnose business training needs.
o Interact with stakeholders, SMEs, and cross-functional partners to source relevant learning content.
- 15% Other tasks / activities as assigned
o Schedule training sessions with SMEs to conduct the training and coordinate the necessary physical meeting spaces to host the sessions.
o Establish a routine maintenance and auditing schedule for existing training materials and SharePoint content to ensure accuracy in a fast-paced retail environment.

Skills:
- Proficient knowledge of instructional design, adult learning theories, and change management principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint with a proven ability to tell a compelling strategic story to audiences of all levels (Associates, Managers, Directors, VPs).
- Strong graphic design capabilities with an eye for visual layout, typography, and user interface (UI) design.
- Proficiency with software including Microsoft Office, and SharePoint site development.
- Experience utilizing and teaching generative AI tools (e.g. Gemini, Copilots) to optimize workflows.
- Video editing experience is an asset.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Direct Manager/Direct reports
- This position Reports to Manager, Talent & Development for Merchandising.
- This position has no direct reports.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- This is an in-office position. Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Education:
- A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience), preferably in a learning-related field, visual/graphic design, Human resources or communications.
Work Experience:

3-5 years’ experience in an instructional design role or equivalent.

Leadership Experience: None required, though experience leading cross-functional projects or mentoring peers on new technology (like AI) is highly valued.

Certifications: Certifications in Instructional Design or Change Management are considered an asset.
