Human Resources Generalist Reporting to the AVP, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will provide comprehensive HR support across the entire employee lifecycle. This role will be responsible for partnering with leaders and delivering practical HR guidance, supporting organizational initiatives, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and internal policies, and contributing to talent and culture initiatives at Butterfield. The HR Generalist will be a trusted advisor to leaders and employees while balancing business needs with people-focused solutions.

About the Team The Butterfield HR Team supports a Canadian employee base of over 300 employees. We are a multi-faceted team that manages a variety of functions including recruitment and selection, employee relations, benefits administration, compensation, payroll, talent management, HR business partnership, and more. Our team provides strategic insight to ensure the business has the talent it needs to grow and works to create the best possible experience for our colleagues―whether they are seasoned professionals or just starting their careers.

Your responsibilities will include: Partnering with business leaders to identify workforce capability needs and talent strategies and supporting recruitment activities as needed. Partnering with other HR team members to coordinate talent development initiatives. Supporting internal employee immigration including coordination of the Atlantic Immigration Program and monitoring employee immigration statuses. Responding to employee relations matters with professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment. Conducting and supporting workplace investigations into workplace matters, providing recommendations and follow-up based on investigation findings. Offering consultation and coaching to leaders on performance management and misconduct cases, ensuring consistent application of internal practices. Managing the medical leave of absence and workplace accommodation processes, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and internal procedures. Overseeing onboarding and offboarding activities to ensure a positive employee experience. Contributing to employee engagement and culture initiatives.

Your qualifications and skills include: Post-Secondary education in Human Resources or Business with a minimum five years’ experience in a related HR Generalist role. Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and HR best practices. Strong interpersonal, coaching, and relationship-building skills. Sound judgment with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. Experience supporting multiple areas of HR including employee relations, performance management, recruitment and selection, and policy interpretation and implementation. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The ability to analyze and interpret information and develop recommendations an for appropriate course of action. The ability to operate with integrity and remain impartial.
