About the role

As a member of the Store Learning team, the Learning Consultant is responsible for the instructional design and development of training materials for employees in Canadian Tire retail stores. Content areas include, but are not limited to, technical training (for example, reference guides, job aids, walkthrough videos), selling skills and product knowledge, and soft skills training (for example, customer service and diversity and inclusion topics).

The Learning Consultant works closely with Lead Learning Solutions Consultants, Senior Retail Integration Consultants, and Multimedia Designers. The role reports to the Manager, Store Learning.

Within Canadian Tire’s hybrid work model, our team works in our Toronto (Yonge and Eglinton) office from Monday to Thursday.

What You'll Do:

  • Source and evaluate content from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and any other appropriate sources, using critical thinking to ask insightful questions and identify any gaps in content.
  • Design and develop blended learning solutions, including eLearning, technical guides and job aids, training video scripts, newsletter articles, print materials, and performance support tools.
  • Develop content that encourages active learning, retention and improved performance on the job for various topics, including soft skills, customer service, selling, technology, and processes.
  • Work on multiple projects and tasks, demonstrating strong organizational and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adapt to changes in project lifecycles, showing comfort with ambiguity and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Meet project deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, make recommendations for continuous enhancement of learning programs, and brainstorm new approaches to delivering content to store staff.
  • Use strong interpersonal and communication skills to build collaborative working relationships at all levels across the organization.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients throughout the project lifecycle. Consult on adult learning best practices and recommend approaches that can help facilitate the adoption of technologies and processes in Stores.
  • Remain current with learning industry tools, best practices, and trends and ensure that knowledge is shared with the team.

What You'll Bring:

  • Post-secondary degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, Human Resources, Communications, or an equivalent combination of training and education.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in an instructional design role or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, written and verbal, are essential. French proficiency is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of principles of adult learning theory, training and development techniques.
  • Proficient in Windows platforms (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of eLearning software like Articulate Storyline or Rise and video editing tools.
  • Canadian Tire or retail experience is considered an asset.

Our typical hiring range is between $53,000.00 and $88,000.00 CAD Annual. The target salary range is between $65,000.00 and $75,000.00 CAD Annual. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, job-related knowledge, skills and competencies, market location, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements.
