Job Description
In collaboration with the Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, the Health, Safety and Claims Technician provides administrative and operational support to the Health and Safety committees. The person in this role serves as the primary point of contact for local health and safety committees, supports the administration of medical leave and workers’ compensation claims, and contributes to the continuous improvement of health and safety programs, tools, and performance monitoring.
Participate in local health and safety committee meetings, as required. Coordinate the distribution of medical absence files with the absence management team and administer short-term medical absences of less than seven days. Conduct initial interviews as part of workplace accident investigations and support the follow-up of related files. Monitor the completion of monthly workplace inspections and follow up on identified actions. Maintain the list of first aid attendants and coordinate required training activities for both Air Transat and Transat agency employees. Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at preventing workplace injuries, occupational illnesses, and medical absences. Track the progress of accident investigations and corrective action plans with managers, and coordinate the implementation of corrective and preventive measures. Act as the subject matter expert for the incident and accident reporting management system and provide training to new health and safety committee members on its use. Assist in the development and updating of health and safety procedures, documentation, and intranet content. Produce statistical reports and key performance indicators related to workplace incidents and accidents, and perform other related tasks as required.
Qualifications
Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or College Diploma in Administration combined with relevant Occupational Health and Safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a role related to Occupational Health and Safety. No prior experience is required for candidates holding a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Experience in administrative coordination, document management, records administration, or case file tracking within a corporate environment. Strong organizational, analytical, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple files and deadlines simultaneously. Demonstrated attention to detail, discretion, confidentiality, autonomy, initiative, and strong collaboration skills. Knowledge of the organization, its operations, and its unionized environments is considered an asset. Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and demonstrated ease using digital collaboration tools and AI technologies (e.g., Copilot). Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies. Oral and written fluency in French and English*. *A good knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and internationally.
