About the role

JOB SUMMARY:

The Talent Acquisition Specialist will be responsible for supporting and partnering directly with senior leaders and HR to successfully source, recruit and hire talented candidates to meet the needs of our changing and growing organization. They will play a key role in streamlining the hiring process, improving the quality of hires, and lowering turnover rates, saving both time and resources in the long run.

Analytical and out of the box thinking, short- and long-term recruitment vision, solid business acumen, and personal organization are key to the role. This position plays a critical role in hiring the most qualified talent for Sagamok.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Manage the recruitment cycle: sourcing, screenings, interviews, negotiation, and reference checks
  • Identify, source, and maintain a pipeline of candidates through a variety of platforms: social media, job boards, networking, headhunting, external agencies, universities, and colleges; etc.
  • Collaborate with the Education and ISET departments to work with new graduates and students to continue their career at Sagamok.
  • Create job descriptions and interview questions that reflect the requirements for each position
  • Compile lists of most-suitable candidates by assessing their resumes, portfolios, and references
  • Organize and attend job fairs and recruitment events to build a strong candidate pipeline
  • Maintain records of all materials used for recruitment, including interview notes and related paperwork, to share with key stakeholders
  • Creatively build new recruitment strategies capable of attracting top talents
  • Work with hiring leaders as a trusted advisor and strategic partner, educating them on the recruitment process, interview techniques and selection criteria, and managing the flow and quality of candidates.
  • Participate in internal company initiatives such as social media campaigns, culture events, etc.
  • Play an active role in the design and development of ongoing workplace culture and social events.
  • Create and implement end-to-end hiring processes to ensure a positive experience for candidates, playing an active role in the onboarding and offboarding of employees.
  • Be proactive to identify occasions when additional administrative tasks are required to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
  • Complete weekly status reports
  • Representing the HR Department on sub committees

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Sign & comply with an annual oath of confidentiality.
  • Incumbent is subject to six months’ probation.
  • Clear Criminal Records Check (CPIC) that is valid within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
  • Preference will be given to qualified members of Sagamok Anishnawbek.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma/certificate in Human Resources, Business or Finance.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Human Resources field.

  • Knowledge of the Ojibway culture and traditions. The ability to speak or understand the language would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of federal labour standards, the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Occupational Health and Safety section of the Canada Labour Code.

  • Experience in full-cycle recruiting, using various interview techniques and evaluation methods.

  • Proficiency with social media, CV databases, and professional networks.

  • Experience in using LinkedIn Talent Solutions to proactively source candidates.

  • Proficiency in documenting processes and keeping up with industry trends.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Understanding of HR processes and talent acquisition trends.
