About the role
Position Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Manager, Human Resources plays a critical role in the Plant Management Team by acting as the go-to HR leader for both our management team and our employees. This role provides an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a continuous improvement mindset and who excels at being the primary onsite HR leader for a unionized location and for mentoring and coaching Human Resources Generalists who report directly to this position. Key focuses include enhancing our recruitment strategy, driving employee engagement, and focusing on organizational capabilities and employee development. The successful candidate will have a passion for people and spend time on the plant floor to ensure our employees’ needs are being met to maintain a highly motivated and engaged workforce.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- In collaboration with the local leader, and other key stakeholders, develop and implement annual HR plans that address key business objectives;
- Lead the recruitment and selection processes for hourly/salaried employees with a focus on continuous improvement;
- Manage the administration of our collective agreement;
- Lead grievance meetings and support the supervisors with responses and potential settlements;
- Partner with Director HR Operations, Director Employee/Labour Relations and legal counsel for arbitrations and/or other administrative body proceedings including human rights;
- Partner closely with other HR managers to share learnings and drive consistency of approach;
- Track, analyze and report on key HR metrics and make recommendations on action, if required;
- Lead the investigation process including report drafting and communication of the results;
- Identify, develop and deliver training/communications to supervisors, lead hands and hourly employees; along with mandatory annual training;
- Manage Labour/Management Meetings;
- Manage Attendance Management Program;
- Assist and prepare for CBA negotiations;
- Manage non-occupational Disability Program and Return to Work Program;
- Participate in Plant Management meetings offering insight and solutions for human resource issues that have impact on the plant/business;
- Proactively manage employee issues in support of Sofina’s culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 5- 7 years’ experience in HR including experience in labour relations. A degree in Business, LR or HR a definite asset;
- Knowledge of Labour Relations, Human Rights and Employment Standards and their application;
- Comfortable in developing and executing plans and promoting ideas;
- Excellent communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, problem solving and analytical skills including the ability to influence;
- Recruitment experience for hourly and salaried positions with demonstrated experience coming up with creative solutions to fill key roles;
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Kronos.

Hiring Range: CAD $87,627 - $116,836
Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus up to 8% of base salary subject to the plan terms and conditions.
Please note that the expected hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity.
