About the role
Job Description Reporting to the Sr. Director, HR Technology & Employee Experience, the Sr. Manager, HRIS is accountable for the integrity, quality, and future-readiness of Extendicare's HR system configurations and HR data. The Sr. Manager establishes and enforces a coherent approach to Workday architecture and data governance, ensuring that all configurations are purposefully designed, thoroughly tested, and evaluated against current and emerging platform capabilities before release. This role will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment. Key Accountabilities Establish and maintain a coherent configuration framework and architectural standards for Workday HCM Modules, ensuring consistency across functional areas and release cycles. Maintain a deep understanding of how all business processes have been configured across each functional area, serving as the authoritative source of configuration knowledge for the organization. Lead the technical evaluation of Workday biannual releases, assessing new features and functionality for configuration suitability, architectural impact, and technical adoption readiness. Develop and maintain a structured release assessment process that ensures every new Workday feature is technically evaluated, documented, and either adopted with a configuration deployment plan or formally deferred with rationale. Coordinate with other functional HR leaders to assess the downstream configuration impact of upcoming releases on existing Workday business processes. Own and enhance our rigorous end-to-end testing framework for all system changes, enhancements, and new configurations — including unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Lead the design and execution of regular HR data audits — including data integrity checks, field-level validation reviews, and cross-system reconciliations — to proactively identify and remediate data quality issues before they affect downstream reporting, payroll, or compliance. Provide expert guidance on the feasibility, risk, and effort of proposed system changes, enabling informed prioritization and resource planning. Identify and recommend opportunities to leverage underutilized platform capabilities to improve HR service delivery and employee experience. Build and maintain effective partnerships with HR functional leaders, IT, Payroll, Finance, and external vendors to ensure alignment on system changes and their downstream impacts. Communicate clearly and proactively with business partners on the status of system changes, release timelines, and any constraints or risks. Support the intake and prioritization process by providing technical assessments of proposed enhancements, including complexity, risk, and alignment with architecture standards. Champion a culture of quality within the HRIS team, setting clear standards and holding the team accountable for delivering thoroughly validated solutions. Qualifications & Experience Post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field; master's degree preferred. Minimum 5 years of progressive HRIS experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role with direct accountability for system configuration and governance. Deep, hands-on expertise with Workday HCM, including configuration across multiple functional areas (Core HR, Compensation, Talent, Recruiting, Absence, Time Tracking, Payroll). Demonstrated experience designing and implementing testing frameworks and quality assurance processes for HR technology. Experience in a complex, multi-site organization; unionized environment experience is an asset. Familiarity with ServiceNow HRSD and integration architecture between HR platforms is an asset. Skills & Competencies Architectural thinking with the ability to see the long-term implications of configuration decisions and design for scalability and maintainability. Exceptional attention to detail and a disciplined approach to quality, documentation, and change control. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to decompose complex system issues and drive structured resolution. Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders. Collaborative leader who can influence without authority and build alignment across diverse teams. Results-oriented with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and staying current with HR technology trends and platform developments.
