About the role

ABOUT THE ROLE Our client is a growing chemical manufacturer with operations across two Etobicoke facilities. We are looking for a hands-on Safety Coordinator to own our Health & Safety programs at the plant level, ensuring regulatory compliance, building safety culture, and keeping our people safe on the floor every day. This is a visible, floor-level role suited to a safety professional with industrial or chemical manufacturing experience who takes ownership of programs rather than just maintaining them.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Health & Safety Leadership: Plan and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee H&S training across both sites. Provide day-to-day H&S guidance to supervisors and frontline employees. Drive safety culture through active floor presence, employee engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives. Compliance & Program Management: Ensure compliance with Ontario OHSA and all applicable occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards. Develop, implement, and maintain Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and work instructions. Administer and continuously improve the company's H&S management system. Manage third-party vendor relationships including external trainers, industrial hygiene testing providers, and confined space program vendors. Coordinate corrective and preventive actions arising from incidents, inspections, and audits. Audits, Inspections & Investigations Conduct routine workplace inspections and internal H&S audits across both facilities. Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement practical corrective solutions. Lead incident investigations; prepare root cause analysis reports and corrective action plans. Track, analyze, and report on safety metrics, trends, and performance indicators. Transportation & Regulatory Compliance Serve as the primary on-site resource for Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) compliance. Maintain documentation, employee training records, and regulatory reporting requirements. Support environmental, emergency response, and compliance initiatives as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related discipline. Minimum 4 years of H&S experience in chemical manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or a processing environment. Strong working knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and related regulations. Experience developing SOPs and delivering H&S training to frontline employees. Experience conducting internal audits, workplace inspections, and incident investigations. Working knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations. Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety documentation management systems. Strong communication and presentation skills. Familiarity with ISO 45001, SMETA, or ILO audit standards is a strong asset.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC), or actively working toward designation. First Aid and Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) certification.
