Position: Human Resources Business Partner - Term Location: 1645 Inkster Blvd. Winnipeg MB Reporting To: Manager, Human Resources POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, and as a member of the Arctic Co-operatives organizational leadership team, the Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for providing various human resource services for the Arctic Co-op System, ensuring a high level of service and HR expertise to Arctic Co-ops and Member Co-operatives as well as partnering with the Human Resources team on executing strategies linked to existing programs. The human resource strategies, practices and programs will include recruitment and selection, adherence to Nunavut Employment legislation, compensation and benefits administration, training and development initiatives, performance management, health and safety, and employee retention. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES · Oversees recruitment processes for assigned area of responsibility (Inns North hotels) along with recruitment for some home office roles and subsidiary businesses; act as backup for Co-op management recruitment as required · Coordinates development of job postings in conjunction with HR Coordinator; ensures postings are prepared and distributed in accordance with time frames and other guidelines · Ensures job descriptions are current; works with the hiring manager to revise if needed · Develops external ads, as required, in conjunction with HR Coordinator, and determines appropriate external resources for ad placements, within prescribed annual budget · In consultation with the hiring manager, prepares selection criteria, interview questions and tests; assists the hiring manager in short listing candidates by pre-screening resumes, coordinating and/or conducting preliminary interviews; follows up with job offers and candidate follow up · Co-ordinates employee relocations · Makes recommendations during annual budget planning process · Participates in coordination of orientations for new hires · Maintains application database and spreadsheets for various reports ie. recruitment costs, vacancy status, applicant tracking, current employee locations across the Co-op system, etc · Provides interpretation of the Collective Agreement and federal/provincial Legislation to managers and staff of Arctic Co-ops, Co-operatives and local Boards of Directors · As a member of the HR team, takes a lead role in performance management with the co-ordination and administration of the performance management program twice per year; provides advice and recommendations to managers on performance issues · In partnership with the leadership team, provide guidance and recommendations with the development of specific action plans to address employee issues and performance concerns · Provides guidance, support and coaching to address human resource-related questions and legislation inquiries from with leadership and staff · Act as lead investigator for complaints, determine appropriate action and consult with leadership team to build consensus regarding the approach to resolution · Performs general human resource administrative functions as they relate to file maintenance, correspondence, policy administration, expense reports, etc · Provide information regarding mental health and other support resources to all staff and leadership; maintain positive relationships with support providers, such as Northern Counselling Therapeutic Services, and provide all providers with up to date staffing information · Attend People Leader meetings; may be asked to prepare and deliver presentations on occasion · To maintain key business relationships and effective networking with community organizations, professional associations and government agencies · Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education, training, literature review, workshops and seminars · Ability to travel to a Co-op in the Arctic as required; typically once a year, for up to one week · Performs other related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS · A proven background as a Human Resources generalist with a minimum of five years of experience at this level, preferably in a Co-op environment · An HR background in hospitality services would be a definite asset · Post-secondary education in Human Resources · CPHR designation (or currently a CPHR candidate) · Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications is required; knowledge of payroll systems would be considered an asset · Strong administrative skills · Knowledge of health & safety practices · Solid background in leadership and training of staff · Excellent decision making skills · Extensive experience in recruitment and retention, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, and training and development · Demonstrated knowledge of labour laws, employment standards, and human rights · Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills · Strong problem-solving abilities · High level of integrity with the ability to keep confidential information secure · Self motivated, with initiative and leadership qualities · Proven commitment to personal growth and development · Ability to work cohesively as part of a team · Grocery or retail industry knowledge is an asset

Requirements

Candidates should bring broad expertise in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, training, employment legislation, and health and safety, along with strong communication, administrative, and problem-solving skills.
