Passionate, motivated, creative: the 3 keywords most used by Canadians on LinkedIn

As it does every year, LinkedIn has released the words and expressions most frequently used by users of its network in 2014. In Canada, candidates broadly put forward their passion and motivation in the work as much as their creative spirit. There are many twists to be overcome if they want to stand out from the crowd.

It’s the fifth consecutive year that LinkedIn has unveiled the list of adjectives and expressions that are most frequently used during the year in the profiles of candidates around the world. Here are the results obtained in Canada:

Avoid mundane phrases

Once again, the social network warns candidates about how they describe themselves and invites them not to use words or expressions that might seem too trivial. According to LinkedIn, Canadians seeking job opportunities should rather concentrate on describing goals they have achieved during their past experience and illustrate their skills with concrete examples.

Take care of the photo and title

LinkedIn also took the opportunity to advise users about their profile photo. The picture is important since profiles that have them are 14 times more likely to be viewed. It must reflect a certain professionalism. The title must also be crafted carefully to catch the eye of prospective recruiters.

Promote volunteering and recommendations

The American giant also advises emphasizing experiences with volunteering and not hesitating to reveal how candidates like to spent their time. In a study conducted by LinkedIn in the United States it was found that 41% of professionals interviewed say they consider experience gained for remuneration equal with experience volunteering. Finally, the social network invites them to further exploit the recommendations section, by encouraging their colleagues to give their opinion on a project delivered under good conditions.
