Services Engineering is a key function of Services NAM (Americas). The function provides engineering expertise and technical solutions to the various Business Units (BU) of Services. We support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) sites, as well as lead the design efforts for Asset Life Management (Modernizations, upgrades, overhauls of rail vehicles) and support the Parts Obsolescence BU. We provide engineering support to all products maintained by Alstom that operate in the North American market (automated people movers, light rail vehicles, commuters, metros, locomotives…), as well as several of the infrastructure components (guideways, stations, depots, electrification and power distribution…). We are 180 professionals, located in 17 different sites across the continent.


Alstom has an opening for a Product Safety Engineering Manager. The position is posted for our St-Bruno, Qc, Canada Il site. In Alstom Services, our focus is to provide excellence in customer support and develop innovative mobility solutions.

As the Product Safety Engineering Manager, you will be the primary contact point and responsible the product safety of all products designed and overhauled by NAM SER as well as on the sites where our products are operated and maintained.

Your responsibilities:
• Delivering Safety analyses compliant with QCD work packages commitments.
• Performing the Safety analyses he/she is in charge of, as per the applicable Safety instructions/processes and other specific requirements committed to the Customer.
• Addressing Customer/Independent parties comments to get approval on the Safety deliverables within the limits of Alstom Transport commitments.
• Contributing to the assessment of the Safety performance of the product and to the upstream identification of the necessary safety requirements to ensure the achievement of the Safety targets.
• Having a pro-active challenging view on the Safety data/results.
• Seeking for the technical understanding of the Alstom Transport products in order to better assess their safety performance and potential areas of improvement.
• Perform internal product safety assessments at all NAM SER O&M sites
• Verify and sign-off on all safety related deliverables within the NAM SER scope
• Manage the safety aspects of all released service bulletins
• Support in the investigation and closure of all safety incidents, using the 8D process
• Lead the deployment of a “Safety First” product culture across the O&M sites
• Follow all the Alstom’s internal processes, procedures and best practices

You will liaise with O&M site general managers and Services business unit leaders, as well as engineers and technical experts, both internal and external. You will represent NAM Services Engineering as part of the global Alstom Product Safety community. You will ensure compliance with appropriate industry and regulatory standards. You work in multi-disciplinary teams with Customers, Rolling Stock Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Quality, Auditors, Platform (Tenders, Reference Library, REX), Quality, Validation and Testing.

The candidate will eventually be called upon to lead a team of Safety and Reliability engineers

What do I need to qualify for this job?
In this role, you are expected to build effective working relationships across a diverse Services team, establishing your credibility as the single point of contact for all product safety topics.

Candidate must be versatile, very autonomous, with hands-on experience, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment in unclear and ill-defined environments, resourceful to find information.

Minimum Qualifications
• University degree in Railway Engineering, Electronics, Automation Engineering or Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
• 5-10 years of experience in Railways system/Application engineering

Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of rolling stock systems and components
• Knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment
• Experience in rail operations and maintenance activities
• Proficient in the use of MS Office, SAP, GSI, Maximo (other ERP tools)
• Experience in managing local and remote engineering teams is desired
• Alignment of Alstom Design for Quality processes
