We are looking for a Benefits Technician for the Employee Service Centre to be based at our head office in Montreal East.

You will report to the Benefits Supervisor. You will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service by acting as a second level resource person for requests from employees, managers and human resources members related to employee benefits, pension plans and absence management. You will be responsible for the administration of employee benefits, pension plans and absence management in accordance with the programs, policies, collective agreements, contracts and practices in effect as well as all operations required for the processing of these on the payroll.

Your role

  • Respond to requests for information regarding employee benefits, pension plans and absence/vacation management either by telephone, e-mail and/or letters, following the service standards in place;
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all payroll entries related to benefits, pension plans and absence management including status changes, absences, returns, retirements, program transfers, default values, recoveries and premium adjustments;
  • Process enrolments, changes and terminations of members in various group insurance programs as well as process and follow up on all requests for evidence of insurability and life insurance payments.
  • Liaison with service providers for all matters related to the group insurance and pension plan of employees and banners (interfaces, validations, audits, retirement enrollments).
  • Responsible for the operational processing of disability management, informing and guiding employees on the forms and documents to be provided, producing and sending the employer's form to the insurer as well as any documents received during the disability;
  • Inform inactive employees of the amounts and procedures for the payment of premiums during the absence. Follow up on the receipt of monthly cheques and proceed with their deposit.
  • Be responsible for the administration of the group insurance program offered to our banners, including sending invitations to new entities; sending cost simulations and information documents; processing memberships, modifications and terminations of participants; producing monthly invoices for the program and making accounting entries;
  • Participate in the annual renewal process for group insurance.

* Support and actively participate in the development, definition, identification and implementation of tools to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • You have 2 to 4 years of experience in the field of employee benefits and pension plans, combined with a college diploma with a specialization in administrative techniques or in an appropriate discipline or a combination of relevant experience and a recognized educational credential. You are also recognized for :
  • Your ability to summarize ideas and communicate them effectively in both English and French;
  • Your organizational skills that allow you to multi-task while remaining productive and efficient in a dynamic environment;
  • Excellent customer service skills, analytical thinking and the ability to propose creative solutions; and
  • Your advanced mastery of Excel and you have an additional asset if you have used PeopleSoft HR.
