Senior Manager, HR Payroll and Operations

CORE ACCOUNTABILITY

The incumbent is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll production for employees at our Montreal, New York, London and Asia offices, as well as employees on international assignments. He or she also ensures the smooth running of processes and supports the business's international expansion in these areas. The incumbent will supervise a team and work closely with members of the HR team and various stakeholders.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll management

  • Lead, guide and improve the activities of the team in charge of payroll processing for PSP Investments and its local and international subsidiaries (New York, London and Asia (under development)).
  • Support and develop the team resources.
  • Participate actively in payroll processing by supporting the team members involved in payroll execution, coordination and validation.
  • Liaise between internal/external clients and partners (Corporate Finance, HR team, etc.) and the team members to ensure efficient payroll operations.
  • Stay abreast of new legislative measures and best practices regarding payroll and oversee their implementation.
  • Participate actively in the implementation of Payroll processes to support PSP Investments' international expansion.
  • Coordinate the daily execution of data entry and various HR processes related to the payroll system (payroll instructions, communications, interfaces, etc.).
  • Coordinate the year-end activities and reporting, as well as annual internal and external payroll process audits.
  • Intervene in the resolution of complex issues and define communication requirements to keep employees informed about payroll.
  • Ensure backups as required during vacation or leave.
  • Act as a change agent for the user community.

Evolution of payroll processing and payroll systems

  • Ensure that the payroll system evolves in line with the strategic orientations of the organization's business plan.
  • Participate in preparing a long-term Payroll development strategy, taking into consideration the changing needs of a rapidly growing organization.
  • Keep abreast of new market trends and practices, namely by maintaining good relationships with peers and partners.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in administration, accounting, human resources or another relevant field

Experience

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of practical experience directly related to payroll processing, including international payroll and expatriates (required)
  • Certification recognized by the Canadian Payroll Association
  • Experience in finance, insurance or professional services
  • At least five (5) years of experience using large-scale payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, etc.)
  • Experience managing a team
  • Experience planning, managing projects and change, and reviewing processes

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Excel and advanced functions, as well as other tools of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge and strong computer technology skills (HRIS, payroll system, interfaces, process automatization)
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to solve problems in innovative ways
  • Bilingualism required
  • Well-integrated customer-based approach and desire to be part of a dynamic team and work collaboratively with people
  • Proven skills and interest in managing a team
  • Ability to manage several important files requiring timely response based on tight deadlines
  • Ability to act with diplomacy and maintain the highest level of confidentiality and integrity
  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in a fast-growing environment with quickly changing priorities
