Reporting to the HR Coordinator for Canada, the Payroll & HR Technician will be responsible for the payroll administration for the Canadian galvanizing division.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned):
Experience in implementation of a new payroll system (Desjardins).
Ensure the revision, changes and submission of the payroll for 250 employees in Canada (Québec, Ontario & Nova Scotia), in accordance to the established pay schedule and in compliance with applicable standards, regulations and laws;
Computes wages and deductions and enters data into computer;
Maintains files pertaining to payroll and human resources records;
Ensure, through regular processing and updating, the integrity of the data required to process payroll, group insurance, pension plan and ESPP;
Reviews time sheets/reports, wage computation, and other information in order to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies.
Provides guidance on various payroll transactions verifying payroll data for accuracy.
Administer and maintain the management of the payroll system and process all data including hirings, terminations, movement within the company, leave and benefits (in collaboration with the human resources department);
Issues and records adjustments related to previous errors or retroactive increases;
Provides information to employees and managers on payroll matters;
Distributes and collects timecards each pay period;
Prepares and balances period-end reports and reconciles issued payrolls.
Prepares statistical reports, statements, and summaries related to pay and submits to appropriate departments.
Prepares quarterly tax payments;
Keeping up-to-date on any changes in legislations or standards with respect to labor laws and internal pay policies (Québec, Ontario and Nova Scotia);
Assists Human Resources department with other tasks and projects as needed.
Works with other departments as necessary to ensure proper payments to employees and outside vendors;
Will be required to assist in performing a variety of personnel support duties including assistance with screening resumes, data entry into the personnel database, processing within grade increases, and backup to other functions as needed;
Verify and issue Provincial and Federal Taxes forms at the end of the year and track taxable benefits;
Drafting and implementing procedures (SOX), processes and policies;
Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.
High school diploma is required and five years previous payroll processing experience is required.
Good understanding of human resources administration.
Knowledge of Canadian (for Québec, Ontario and Nova Scotia) laws related to payroll.
