The University Services Centre (USC) plays a critical role in ensuring York University's commitment to Service Excellence. Reporting to the Manager, Recruitment & Onboarding Services, the Recruitment & Onboarding Consultant (ROC) is responsible to actively promote, consult, and provide recruitment and onboarding support services to the York community, ensuring adherence to provisions of the appropriate collective agreements, internal operating policies and procedures, applicable legislation, and client service level agreements. This role will serve as the primary point of contact for the hiring manager and People Partner (the client) in support of the acquisition and onboarding of non-academic staffing needs across multiple faculties and units, responsible for CPM level recruitment and onboarding activities and coordinates ROA workflow for non-CPM level positions providing guidance and support on Union compliance.

Education:

  • Post Secondary Degree in human resources or related field of study (Psychology/Social Sciences) or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • CHRP completed or in progress.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years recent full cycle recruiting and onboarding for management and unionized positions.
  • Experience using automated recruitment and onboarding platforms.
  • Experience coordinating high volume workflow.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical system issues.
  • Experience working on project teams and applying project management concepts.

Skills:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of strategic recruitment, onboarding, problem solving and client relations support.
  • Knowledge and understanding of talent market trends and emerging issues.
  • Good working knowledge of recruitment and onboarding administration principles and practices in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Canadian and international legislation, ethical standards, and policy documents relating to recruitment. sourcing, selection, hiring, data collection, privacy, and accessibility.
  • Knowledge with applicant tracking systems, social media applications, and HR databases.
  • Knowledge of metrics and measures to support continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate with sensitivity to cultural values and beliefs to enable mutual understanding and respect.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and communication, and advance two-way dialogue to promote applicant and client engagement and problem resolution.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to prioritize and coordinate workload for self and support team, and meet timelines within a complex changing environment of competing client needs.
  • Ability to provide effective, unbiased client services to the internal community and external communities whilst applying AODA standards with efficacy.
  • Effective tact and diplomacy, with ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in adapting to and learning new automated recruitment and onboarding systems.
  • Ability to effectively apply project management fundamentals and lean process improvement concepts.

*Compensation:

York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
