Payroll Compliance Advisor

The CPA has an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Compliance Advisor in our Compliance Services Department.  The primary focus of this position is to provide payroll compliance knowledge and expertise to CPA members through the Payroll InfoLine. The incumbent will project manage legislative updates to CPA's intellectual property for Certification and Professional Development (PD) seminar material and facilitate CPA's PD seminars.

Key Responsibilities:  

Payroll InfoLine

  • Provide accurate, current and verifiable information, guidance and assistance to CPA members and certification students on payroll and related subject matters.

  • Conduct required or necessary research (through government contacts, internet research etc.) for the above.

  • Document above findings with backup or applicable resource for future reference needs.

  • Use experience and results to determine member needs (i.e. new programs, articles, develop questions and answers).

Facilitating and Updating of CPA Professional Development (PD) Seminar  Programs

  • Facilitate the current suite of CPA PD seminars to groups of up to 50 people.

  • Update and maintain the PDS seminars including speakers notes, powerpoint, binder content, workbooks, question and anwers for legislative changes, accuracy, correctness and improvements.

  • Update and maintain corporate training programs.

Update and Maintain the CPA's Education and Certification Programs and associated initiatives

  • Update content for the three payroll courses of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner program.

Advocacy Work

  • Participate in advocacy activities for the CPA such as Federal Government Relations Advisory Council (FGRAC) and Quebec Government Relations Advisory Council (QGRAC) sub-committee as required.

Dialogue, CPA Website, and CPA Public Relations

  • Write Q&A's for above, payroll tips, newsletter, Dialogue and late breaking news submissions.

  • Proof brochures, bulletins, (including translations as required) etc.

  • Read daily newspapers, subscriptions, newsletters for relevant payroll information and share relevant information with team members.                                  


  • Post-secondary education – University degree or College diploma

  • Education in adult education and training

  • Presentation skills

  • Completion of the CPA's Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification

  • Highly skilled and vast multi-jurisdictional payroll knowledge

  • Ability to interpret and explain legislation (Income Tax Act, Employment Insurance Act, Canada Pension Plan Act, Employment and Labour Standards Acts; Provincial Income Tax Acts, and Workers' Compensation Legislation)

  • Display strong research skills

  • Ability to write communication pieces for various publications and periodicals

  • Work as part of a Team

  • Ability to multi-task on various projects and initiatives to meet tight deadlines

  • Maintain confidentiality
